We enjoyed our time at the Buttonwood Inn. The decor was lovely and the food was very good. Bill helped us find a short walk with a lovely waterfall. He also recommended several nice places to eat dinner. Our stay was between seasons, but we found plenty to do to keep ourselves occupied. It was a little cool so we enjoyed the warm fire in the morning before breakfast and at night before going to bed. My husband especially enjoyed the deep claw-footed bath tub to soak after the walk in the woods. We had an unexpected treat birds at the feeder while we ate our breakfast and a guidebook to identify them.

“Tranquil Buttonwood”

The Buttonwood Inn

30 Apr 2008

In April we spent a week travelling around New England staying at B&B's. Each was so individual that comparisons are unfair, but Buttonwood has to be a favourite. We received a genuinely warm welcome from Bill and Paula, who are attentive hosts without being intrusive. They were always available for advice or information but otherwise we were left in peace to enoy their lovely home. Early coffee was available and enjoyed, and afternoon tea and coffee was also laid out with home made cakes and biscuits. Paula is an excellent cook, waistlines beware! The house is in a quiet, rural setting while being only a stones throw from shops and a variety of eating places. Hiking trails start from the property if that is your need, but it is also convenient for major routes or local beauty spots. Being early in the year the outdoor pool was not relevant, but the grounds promised to be lovely in the summer when I imagine the pool would be blissful. Our room was cosy and had every facility, although I looked at the room with the jacuzzi and wished ...... The final delight was the tiny red squirrel who knew how to entertain right outside our window while we ate breakfast. He cannot be guaranteed of course, but Bill did almost promise hummingbirds in summer. I was very reluctant to leave, which is perhaps the best test of accommodation.

We've just returned from a delightful and uplifting family reunion in Kearsarge NH at the Buttonwood Inn. Our hosts Bill and Paula couldn't have been more accomodating. Seven of our family members occupied four rooms, and we all agreed, the lodging was superb.
Our room featured a sitting area with a TV and DVD player, a comfortably firm queen bed and quality antique furniture. The drawers in the dresser worked perfectly. So often in antiques, they stick. Not here. The bathroom was spotless and modern with excellent plumbing quality and lush linens. Since our family owns an historic farmhouse of a similar vintage (1780) nearby, I know that these qualities are often rare in these homes.
Breakfast each morning was hearty, creative and tasty. And Bill and Paula were both very gracious about accomodating additional guests to dine with us.
The living room on the main floor, and the recreation room on the lower floor both featured well drawing fireplaces that Bill kept burning at the appropriate hours. We had all of the modern conveniences including wireless internet service, a full DVD library and a bar area with refridgerator and storage for personal beverages and snacks. And Paula's brownies and cookies each day were a special treat.
Due to the 5 feet of snow on the ground outside, and our busy family schedule, we didn't use the pool or hot tub outdoors. But they are a part of the package, and Bill made it clear that he could heat up the spa with just a couple hours notice.
Located on Mt Surprise Rd, away from the hustle and bustle of downtown North Conway, it is still convenient to all of the attractions that one looks for in The Mt Washington Valley.
If you're looking for an authentic New England farmhouse, and a relaxing place to enjoy the charm and homey feeling that is a part of the White Mountains, then this could very well be the place.

“Best ever”

The Buttonwood Inn

28 Mar 2008

Our stay at The Buttonwood Inn, in North Conway, NH was one of the most pleasureable stays ever. The inn keepers Bill and Paula made my wife and I feel just like family. Paula's gourmet breakfasts were, as the saying goes,"next to none and Bills recomendations on ativities and place to go was excellent. I would recommend a stay at The Buttonwood to anyone. We will be back.
