We stayed at the Victoria for a weekend in September. The property is beautifully maintained...the heated pool and bikes are a big plus. However, the owners are just plain biazarre (to put it mildly). Not Judy, she was super helpful, normal and nice...but her husband John and his mother all live on the property too. Let's just say they treat adults like kids who are staying at their house. When we were walking up to check in, a neighbor said "Oh, are you staying at the Victoria?" We said "Yes, looking forward to it". To which the neighbor replied, "Well you better be careful not to make any noise after 10 pm or you might give old John a heart attack". We had no idea what he meant and went on in. Well we certainly found out later that night. After dinner, my husband and another guest were out on the porch, chatting, laughing, having a nice evening. Two grown men with 4 children each sitting out on the porch. Well apparently, someone's laughter woke up John. He flew out onto the porch (in only his bathroom I might add) yelling about how the men had to go to bed and keep quiet. ..that they had no idea how voices carry outside and they would wake his mother up. No sooner did John leave did his mother show up, pointing her finger in their faces and telling them to keep it down. She literally waited by the stairs until they left the porch and went to bed. Not exactly the way you look to be treated as adults spending a lot of money for a get away weekend. It was not a rowdy scene in any sense of the word. It would have been completely different had anyone popped their head out and said "Hey, could you guys keep it down a bit?" Totally fine and appropriate. But how they responded was completely inappropriate, bizarre and dowright creepy. So odd it made you feel like it had to be a joke or prank of some sort. So, stay there if you plan on being in bed by 10....and be ready to get yelled at if you do anything they don't like.

It is very unfortunate that "Would have been great but.." and "Beware of the ranting innkeepers" found it necessary to write bad reviews. As they say, our place is lovely, relaxing, quiet, and well maintained. We keep it that way by managing the property well and setting an expectation of the conduct we expect from our guests. We make sure they know not to ride the bikes after dark (dangerous), not tp go in the pool after it is closed (dangerous), and to whisper after 10:00 PM, in order to be in compliance with the local noise ordinance and to not disturb our guest that retire early.
As you can imagine, when my husband, and then his mother in the house next door, were both woken from a sound sleep at 12:30 PM by loud laughting, they felt it must be addressed.
I am sure the husbands on the second floor porch did not realize how loud they were. My husband put on his robe and went out to ask them to please be quiet. They treated it as a joke and did not lower their voices, just closed the porch door so he could not hear them.
Then his mother, the owner from next door, tried to address it. She was so out of breath after climbing the stair, she had to sit down at the top. So, yes, she was still at the top of the steps when they finally took us seriously and went to bed.
Rather than a negative, this should be a positive review, letting you all know that we will be sure you have a quiet, relaxing environment, where your sleep is not disturbed.
