What a wonderful restaurant!
We had to eat early (5 pm) because they were booked solid all night, but it was worth eating early in order to eat here.
Make sure you go early and have a drink at the bar. I had a Grey Goose L'Orange Cosmopolitan (recommended by a Washington Inn fanatic) that was superb. My husband had the Tropical Martini special, a peachy drink that Marty the bartender said "tastes like vacation." We totally agreed!
We were seated right on time and were waited on by Godfrey. He was fantastic! We always had water and he cleared plates and offered dessert at just the right time. We didn't feel rushed, though I'm sure they were waiting for every table to turn when they are so overbooked.
We both had salads to start. I had a romaine salad with a buttermilk/blue cheese vingarette with onions, candied walnuts and sliced red pear that was great. My husband really liked his arugula salad with shaved parmesan, sliced red pear & some sort of nut with a great vingarette. Our salads ran at $9/each, but they have what would be closer to a house salad for $7.
They had a ton of specials as well as an early bird special (less than $30 for a starter, entree and small dessert), but we went straight for the normal entrees. I had a fantastic 8 oz. filet mignon that was cooked to a perfect medium, topped with caramelized onions and served with mashed potatoes, fresh aspargus and a bearnaise sauce. My husband had a chili cocoa rubbed sirloin with cheddar mashed potatoes and green beans with a red wine reduction. His was good as well, but I'm partial to filet!
If you like wine, this is definitely the place to go. They have over 10k bottles of wine down in the wine cellar, the largest cellar in south Jersey. I had a glass of the red zinfandel of the day, while my husband went with a Pinot Noir. Again, both were fantastic.
They have a very large dessert menu if you've made room. We went for their speciality, the Tower of Chocolate. It's a tower of dark chocolate mousse that's encased in a robe of dark chocolate, then topped with berries and whipped cream. It was superb, and it went fanastic with their Fudge Kitchen martini with Godiva liquers and vanilla vodka. They even wrote happy birthday in chocolate on my plate...a nice touch!
I can't recommend this place more highly. The food is great and the service is superb. They do have valet if you're driving, but it's just as nice to walk there from your B&B home for the weekend.
