On a spur of the moment another couple and I decided to take a long weekend on Cape May. My boyfriend and I have spent the last several years there and have enjoyed this beach spot. As expected, many hotels were booked or only had one room left and we needed two. Well, we were presently surprised that Colton Court Motor Inn had availability; even though the GM shared several times it was a Breezeway and only had one window. I understood that to mean - a hall way, perhaps limited air flow, what I never expected was the intense MOLD smell. Again, I was told it was a breezeway, but the fragrance was UNHEALTHY! I immediately went to discuss other options with the hotel manager, because, ironically, the room was esthetically pleasing and otherwise clean. She shared that although she had no other vacancies that evening that the next day she would have an efficiency available, which I shared I would be willing to pay extra for. She indicated that she was going to make a note on the room card sharing that as soon as the guests leave, the maid would clean. I was satisfied and went about our day.
We definitely had an extremely hard night sleeping for the smell was unbelievably strong, but at least the idea of moving into another room kept our spirits up.
In the morning, I went back to the front desk and was advised by another worker, the GM shared with him, she sold the room last night and only had another breezeway available. Only I remembered, that yesterday the GM stated the room was already rented and not available until the next day. I advised this worker that the GM must have made a mistake, as I restated her original promise. I did not blatantly tell him she was lying, but I implied as much. After much complaining, they gave me the room.
This room was better, probably because of the cross ventilation. I believe these rooms need a serious overhauling, the mold spores were all along the windows, blinds, fridge and when we put the a/c on, it actually made matters worse.
Additionally, the GM later shared she was going to credit me $20 dollars for the breezeway room stating the cost was $179 but she only charged me $159, another lie on her part, the room rate is list write on their website. I am very big on honesty and within 24 hours was lied to twice, I realize I am no one special, but at least be professional.
OK, not to go on and on, I have never done this before, but felt I needed to warn the next innocent vacationer looking for a little Rest n Relaxation!
