The hotel was pretty busy that night since there was a Rutgers game. It was fun to see every one decked out in their scarlet. My husband and I lived in the area back when the Heldridge was an SOR that had just closed down. We never would have imangined a luxury hotel in that location. We skipped the valet parking and just parked on the street. Some people may be unconfortable with the neighboorhood. Since it was a big step us from the neighborhood we were used to we didn't mind, and didn't have a problem leaving the car on the street.
The staff was very nice upon check in. I had booked a room with a king size bed but there was a mix up in the reservation and we ended up with two doubles. The gentleman at the front desk was very appologetic and offered us free breakfast the following morning. We hadn't planned on eating breakfast there, we found the menu very overpriced. The room was very nice, and clean. We had a nice view of Livingston Ave. We didn't have time to use the pool, but did check it out, it looked great.
Breakfast the next morning was very disappointing. The restaurant was empty, but the server was running around. I assume she was taking care of room orders. It took a while for her to come to the table. Also, the food was slow to come out. Once it came out my sausage was cold, I sent it back only to get the same order, semi-warm. It was hard to complain about a free meal, but I was very glad I didn't have to pay for it.
All in all, the hotel was great.
