My sister and I just got back from a trip to NYC. To save money we stayed in Newark and took the train to Manhattan each day. This hotel is connected to Newark Penn Station so it is extremely convenient to catch the train for the quick 20 minute ride to New York Penn Station. The hotel is very clean...sheets felt great...bathroom spotless. Only a couple of negatives....one is the skywalk connection to Penn Station is only open during the day....every time we came back in the evening from NYC it was closed. We only had to walk across the street to the hotel but it is a big selling point and should remain open longer hours. The second is that there is a Starbucks connected to the hotel but it is only open Monday through Friday and closes at I think 7:30 p.m. Those are pretty short hours for a Starbucks. Anyway, the hotel can't be beat if you want clean and convenient to the train station. We paid $150 per night.

Check in was very slow as front desk staff were busy both checking people in and dealing with guests needing assistance due to check in problems such as keys not working. The room smelled like a mothball factory and was not in a great state of repair. Room service was pretty bad - one night my appetizer did not show up, and the next night my medium rare steak had not a hint of red. The concierge lounge is on par with other Hiltons, which is to say it is adequate for a snack or free drinks for the room. The fitness room has cardio machines and dumbells, and is pretty small.

Good news - it is convenient to get on the Path to Manhattan.

Not my favorite and I will avoid this hotel in the future - its only benefit is that it appears to be the next to the last hotel to fill up when all the Manhattan hotels are full (I think the last is the Newark Airport Hilton).

“First Visit to The East Coast”

Hilton Newark Penn Station

It's a great hotel. It's very convenient because it's beside the train station so we can go to new york everyday. The staff are also very friendly and accommodating. We'd definitely book in this hotel again if we have the chance to visit the east coast.

Hello All,
I stayed at Hilton Penn Station for 7 nights. It was almost perfect. We stayed in 4 people. The room is big enough to accomodate all in a comfortable way.
Its possible to get NJ Transit train to New York Penn Station at Newark Penn Station (connect directly to the hotel ) for US$ 7,00 round trip off peak hours (after 9:00am and after 6:30p.m.).

There is a train leaving the station every 10 to 15 minutes all day long and the trips take almost 20 minutes. There is just a not good thing to come back, because at NY Penn Station you will know the track to get the train just 10 minutes before the schedule time, so most times there is a lit bit of confusion (not such a big problem).

I suggest all going to NY to buy a Unlimited MetroCard, so you can use the subway for 7 days (it costs US$ 25,00).

Good Trip,
Joao

“Semi Disappointed Groom”

I stayed at the Newark Hilton Penn Station, In October for my wedding. In all fairness I have to say the young lady my wife worked with reserving the room block was very helpful. She also was patient with our family members and friends who were procrastinators. I feel the Hotel could have done a better job providing me and members of my family better service. I got the impression since I was not utilizing their facilities for my wedding; I was treated as a regular overnight guest. My mother, who was the first person to reserve her room and has asthma, was placed into a smoking room with a non-working air conditioner. My brother and his family were also placed in a room that should have been non-smoking. The front desk staff seemed very reluctant to assist my family with their situation. Anyone who is a non-smoker knows how uncomfortable it can be to be placed into a room full of stale smoke.

In addition my Mother put on Credit Card on the room so that my wife could check into her bridal sweet until her parents arrived from out of town. My wife’s parents paid for the room with their credit card, however both cards were charged. We have been trying to resolve this issue since November 2007 with the hotel, and still have not resolved this matter.
