My fiance and I and our dog stayed at the Somewhere Inn Time Mansion over Memorial Day weekend. We had a fantastic time.
Background:
We are discerning travelers who typically stay in luxury hotels or nice B&Bs. We have stayed in B&Bs all over both coasts, so I would say we have adequate experience to determine the good from the bad. I also consider myself a foodie/chowhound, so good meals are of utmost importance to me.
Innkeeper:
Nancy is very warm and welcoming. Her three children are angelic, and are great little mommy's helpers. Leana and her daughter help Nancy out as well, and they are as nice as Nancy. Nancy was able to make excellent suggestions for meals and activities. She recommended a great dog beach where our four-legged child ran himself ragged with all the other dogs in town.
Room:
We stayed in Ms. McKenna's Room, which has a queen-size bed, efficiency with dining area, and sitting area. There is also a fireplace, which we didn't use; the inn also offers free wireless internet (just ask for the password). The room also has a private entry to the back of the inn. The furniture is a little packed-in the room, but it didn't bother us that much. The private entry was important, because we liked to be able to come and go at odd hours and our dog wouldn't disturb the other guests. The room was impeccably cleaned every day. Absolutely no complaints.
Bathroom:
Jacuzzi tub, stand-up shower, in addition to toilet and sink. The counter space is fairly limited, but unless you are staying for more than a couple of days, it's fine.
The Little Extras:
Bath salts, towel warmer, candles (many B&Bs won't permit candles), hair dryer, more toiletries than most. The kitchenette has dishware; all cutlery, mugs and wineglasses are easily accessible in the downstairs area. The innkeeper happily offered to wash any used dishes if we put them out for her. Tea and coffee available 24 hours.
Breakfast:
Less fussy than other B&Bs where we have stayed. There was always fresh fruit and some baked goody to start, and then some main breakfast course. First morning: we had pancakes, eggs and sausage; second morning: omelette with bacon and toast; third morning: french toast with cheesecake filling and sausage. My fiance doesn't like super-fancy breakfasts, so this was perfect. In terms of portions, the breakfast was often more than we could finish.
Dogs:
The B&B is dog-friendly, but only two rooms are permitted to have dogs, so the place isn't overrun with dogs all the time. To our horror, our dog started barking non-stop while we were gone one morning (he doesn't do that at home), but Nancy and the kids took him out and entertained him. The children were wonderful with our dog, and Nancy was not the least put out.
Ocean City:
- If you like fishing, try either a half-day or whole-day trip with North Star. $40 per person including rod rental for half-day fishing trip; we pulled up 12 fish!
- Crab Trap is an excellent dinner spot, but expect a wait during peak season.
- The dog beach is just across the bridge heading towards Atlantic City. The parking lot is on the left hand side, and the dog beach is across the road (on the right hand side of the bridge).
Overall, we had a very lovely stay. I feel lucky to have found this place, and would recommend it to anyone, especially those who would like to take their dog with them on vacation.
