“Fine for a Night - Once the Drunks Left”

Holiday Inn Toms River

After seeing a mixed bag of reviews here I hesitated a bit before booking. But an 11th hour price reduction on the Holiday Inn Web site won me over.

As we pulled into the parking lot (which, from the Garden State Parkway, requires the infamous New Jersey right turn to turn left), I got nervous. It was 11 p.m. on a Saturday night, and a group of young people who had clearly been enjoying themselves was emerging from the hotel in need of detox. So I'm not surprised by the earlier complaints about a teen party.

Allowing the likely DWIs to exit the lot first, we then proceeded inside. Turns out timing really is everything, because it was uphill from there.

Check-in was easy and we went to a clean, quiet room. Since it faced the parking lot I can't say if it would have been quiet ten minutes earlier, so it might pay to ask for a room on the other side of the building.

The continental breakfast buffet in the morning was fine for the price ($0 for Priority Club members). We didn't upgrade to the hot buffet, but suspect that if you want eggs you should go to the diner up the road. I was up early, and the restaurant has free coffee which you can serve yourself. I took a cup across the hall to the business room, which has two Internet-connected PCs available free of charge.

Very nice room, clean. Staff was very nice. Room was spacious compared to some. Heat/air was quiet. Free breakfast was too much sugar for us so we paid the extra for the buffet. Pretty good value.

We were staying in Tom's River and commuting into NYC. Never did get to see the river!!!!

We booked through Priceline so we got a great deal for what we paid!

“Will Definitely Return”

Holiday Inn Toms River

I stayed here on business, and got a ton of Priority Club points with their bonus package. They have a business center and an indoor pool, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff gave me great suggestions about where to go and what to do at night (I'm not a fan of the Seaside Heights boardwalk area, but Point Pleasant is also just a few minutes away).

I stayed at this hotel in 2004 and again this summer (2007). Things have improved a lot, I think. The beds were definitely more comfortable and the hotel's overall appearance seems better.

The staff were very friendly and helpful both at the desk and in the restaurant. As a Priority Club member--using points this time--we received a free drink in the bar/restaurant, plus a continental breakfast that was plentiful. I liked the business center and free access to a computer.

The coffeemaker was on the bathroom sink, leaving little room to put our toiletry bags. The basket of coffee/tea/filters was on the sink, too, and it looked like it needed a good cleaning. When we were checking out, I mentioned it to the man at the desk. He immediately wrote down my complaint, so I imagine that was taken care of. I liked that they were attentive.

I used this hotel as a place to say in Toms River for a funeral I had to attend. The check in was real fast and pain free. They had all of my reservation in order and I was up in the room very quickly. The pool and sauna were very clean, and the high speed internet was quite fast. We didn't order room service, but the menu was very reasonably priced. The decor was interesting, however. All the rooms had a gold color scheme, and it was a little strong. However, the rooms were very clean, the beds were very comfortable, and there was plenty of water pressure and hot water in the shower. The other down side was the main elevator. The roof of the elevator car shook violently when you went up and down. But, if you want a comfortable and modestly priced hotel in Toms River, this is the place to go.
