On our recent trip to New Mexico I wanted to propose to my girlfriend in the most unforgettable way. After finding this place online and researching, I realized that this was the most unique and yet strangely affordable place.
When you check-in you first go to Gayle's house (the inn keeper) and fill out some paperwork. Then the fun begins.... You take about a 15 minute ride, following Gayle, onto the main road and eventually onto to dirt, rocky paths to a remote area where the cave is located. The drive to the cave was exciting. We recommend having a 4 wheel drive car.
Once you park your car, you gather only the belongings you can carry and begin the descent to the cave. be very careful and be sure you are wearing hiking sneakers with a good grip. Gayle will bring you in and orient you to the inn and answer any and all questions. No question is stupid because it is only you in a cave on many acres of land.
The cave was immaculate, Kathy the housekeeper does an amazing job and you can tell she works very hard. The place is fully stocked with cold cereals, milk, juice, condiments and there is plenty of room in the fridge and freezer to bring your own food to cook. there is a grill on one of the balconies.
The bed is very comfortable and our best night sleep during our whole week long trip. The cave is a great temperature but if you tend to be chilly, you would want to bring long sleeves or a sweater. Definitely make sure you watch the sunset on the balcony. One of the best parts were watching the animals right outside the door and feeding them. You'll understand what we mean if you stay there.
This is the best place we have ever stayed (and we travel a lot).
Book early and more than one night if you can
