This hotel opened in the early 1930's, making it one of the few places in northern New York where one can enjoy an old fashioned hotel. My wife and I booked a night there to get away for a weekend (we live about 70 miles north of there) and were scared by some of the reviews we saw. You know, mildew this and smelly that. Well, I'm not going to say this place is the Waldorf, but it certainly is a decent place to stay. It's sort of like a person dressed up for a big occasion -- but then you notice a scuffed shoe and the tie a bit askew. Nothing major, you know, just not quite ready for politics. That's this hotel. Lovely, charming, but you might notice that the lighting could be improved to make it warmer. The paint is peeling a little in the pool area. It's nothing that would make me feel scuzzy, for I've seen such things in much more expensive hotels in Albany, Montreal, and New York.
It is a lovely place to stay, with clean, comfortable beds and a very helpful staff. The pool and hot tub are wonderful.
The hotel is also, by the way, very involved in the revitalization effort in downtown Glens Falls. Those interested in the arts might be especially drawn to this hotel.
