At this here place you pay premium for the location: most of the units are ~50 feet away from the waves. The beach is rather narrow, rocky and sprinkled with whatever debris the sound decided to part with. The front door of your room is 2 car-lengths from the highway, with noise of cars zooming by invading your accommodations. You could probably park 2 cars side by side facing your unit, just be careful. Some units have ramps for wheelchair access. Bedroom unit we stayed in was rather spacious, clean and rather dated. WiFi was slow, TV - grainy, continental breakfast looked like "Meh"-grade (went to Bruce instead). Toilet had rather annoying tendency to regurgitate whatever one tried to flush, showerhead was undecided on what it was supposed to deliver - a fine mist or a power-wash. So you get both. Soundproofing was also interesting - one can't hear what goes on in the rooms next to you, but noises from the highway and from the porch soundside were let in without much interference. Great sunset views make up for a lot of this, but clouds leave you wishing for the Motel 6.

We came here with friends and family to celebrate my birthday. From top to bottom everything was so so nice. The people are super friendly, the grounds are serene and perfect for a relaxing beach getaway. You do feel far from the hustle and bustle of greater Long Island and NYC. The rooms have spectacular views of the water. The pool also faces the beach. You really feel completely in vacation mode when you arrive. The hotel is close enough to a small grocery store and liquor store so that you can fill your room with everything you need for maximum enjoyment. our room had a mini kitchenette so we were able to keep groceries stored and refrigerated. The restaurant on site was good and you are also very close to some other adorable little towns with shops, and restaurants. Wineries are very close by as well if you are looking to do wine tasting and vineyard tours. I've lived in New York all of my life and honestly wished we had discovered this hotel much sooner. Looking forward to going back this summer.

Everyone should stop complaining about this place. A vacation is what YOU make of it. The Sound View Inn is a great place to go and enjoy some quiet time or go to any of the many attractions close by. The beach, the view ,the staff, the restaurant all are terrific. As for as all the complainers do me a favor and stay home this way I can get a suite with more availability. Thank you Sound View Inn, i'll be back.

Room tip: Stay in a 21/2 room corner suite with a kitchen. You can catch fish right outside your room and then cook it in your room.

I have been going out to the Sound View since the 1970's. I just spent sometime there again and like a great bottle of wine, the Sound View is a gift to yourself like no other. It has survived 2 hurricanes and a fire. It is still quaint and calming as it has always been. I hope it keeps going as it is, I highly recommend the Sound View to those of us who enjoy the peace of the Island. It is wonderful.

Room tip: there are no bad rooms

My wife and I have been having meals and drinks here for years and always thought how nice it would be to have a room at the Sound view and not have to travel the seventy or so miles home afterward. We finally had the time around election day, and booked a suite for two nights. Upon our arrival we were told that we had been upgraded at no extra charge to a larger suite, one with a kitchen, living area and sleeping alcove. The views from the room were beautiful, the sunsets amazing. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was great, the kitchen had all we needed, though we decided to have both nights dinners at the restaurant. The steak was excellent, as were the flounder, clams on the half shell and the regular and veggie burgers. The entire staff was friendly, helpful and accomodating, especially the bartenders, who were helpful with local information and gossip, but only the humorous kind. My wife and I are looking forward to our next trip out East, and we will definitely stay at the Sound view.

Room tip: As I see in another review, the rooms with the floor to ceiling glass provided a really great view, and a better angle to see the sunset.
