It might just have been because we had been driving for a REALLY long time along road 18 (Roosevelt Highway, apparently) in the off-season and were despairing of ever finding anywhere for lunch, but we loved our sandwiches.
The deli is attached to a gas station, and doesn't initially look like much - until you take delivery of your enormous sandwich.
Prices (which are cheap already) appear just to be based on size of sandwich rather than how many fillings you add - a small was plenty for me, and my boyfriend had to eat the next size up in two sittings. Loads of cold meats, a variety of cheeses, then questions about what salad you want, sweet peppers or hot peppers and probably some other mayo type options too.
Then when they actually come to building it, opening up the metal covers in the counter, a whole world of deli goodness is revealed. And it isn't just a couple of measly bits of salami and a little bit of cheese, it was multiple slices laid on thick.
The lady who served us was lovely, chatting about our trip, the royal wedding and her visits to the UK when her forces son was based over here.
If you're driving by and hungry, this is the answer to your prayers.
