As a first timer on Lake George Township, I had a great time walking its downtown area where the shops are. I felt that I was in Katoomba, a small tourist village in Blue Mountains, Australia. That was my first impression. We explored the town and did a little shopping. Souvenir items were cheap. Other than cruising on board Minne Ha Ha, there were other activities for children and grown-ups. There are so many things to do at Lake George, like swimming, boating, kayaking, horse-back riding, rafting, golf, shopping and many others. The Fort of William Henry is now a museum that tells about the rich history of the town which was also named after King George II of England, I think so. It is therefore a great place for family adventure. The four families with me stayed at Flamingo Resort for 2 nights and 3 days....
We took my grandkids for a boat ride on the Minnie ha ha. They loved it. I've always loved the boats on the lake and the beach. I took my kids up there to get them out of the city and in to nature.
The only con was the wheel chair lift was not working. It's tough for people who have mobile issues to go to the top deck.
Everything was beautiful, we loved the gift shops, the park was nice too. If you stop by the L.G chamber of commerce you can learn so much about the history of the village. With excellent photo opp too. Something for everyone.
We stayed one night each way going to and coming from Quebec. But we intend to return for a longer stay. The lake is fabulous and the mountains are breathtaking. We had excellent, high value accommodations in two places, and good (not excellent) dinner on the lake (but a great view), and we kayaked. We enjoyed the village, had ice cream, and went to a breakfast for morning treats. Lake George went from being a way station on a Canada trip to a destination of its own. We shall return!
We did the brunch boat ride around the lake. Spectacular views brunch on the boat needs lots of improvement, entertainment was lousy, didn't care for it. If you're looking for a good meal this isn't it. You're basically paying for the ride and the view.
Just back from week vacation with my husband and 3 children. I hadn't been to Lake George in over 25 years and it appears that very little has changed (Not in a good way!) I seriously felt like I was sucked into some sort of weird time warp. There are outdated motels everywhere and the 6 flags great escape park was downright creepy with weird storybook houses and papermache people everywhere. My kids didn't understand it and we all agreed that Lake George could use a serious modern face lift. We do travel and understand things cost more on vacation, but everything was seriously overpriced and bordered on price gouging. That being said, we did enjoy horseback riding at Bennetts riding stable, Fort William Henry (More outdated weird creepy paper mache people) steam boat ride and the beautiful views of the Lake. Overall a pretty good vacation but don't think well return unless Lake George attractions got a major overhaul and some newer hotels/ resort options.
