I went to the hotel a week prior to check the place out to surprise my wife for our 32nd wedding anniversary and the staff couldn't have been any nicer. I booked what for me is an expensive 557.00 oceanfront room on a high floor for the following friday night and the staff said it would be no problem. I anticipated the weekend with great joy. I arrived with my wife promptly at check-in - 3 pm. They said my oceanfront room would be ready in a few minutes. My wife went for a manicure down the road. After waiting a half an hour, I asked what happened, they said they were short staffed. One of the girls said they would do anything they could to accomodate me. While waiting in the lobby, there were other guests complaining of the lack of air conditioning, the long wait for a room, and we overheard someone complaining about the dirty condition of the room. A hotel of this class you would think would be pristine. When I once again went back to the desk the young girl said she had a room that she would like to show to me which was not oceanfront but I agreed to see it. I was dissatisfied with the location and she understood. The girl who was very sweet, shortly after, called to tell me that she had another room on the first floor with two beds in it. Again, I spent over 500 for a king size bed with an ocean front view. So again we were waiting. It was now past five o'clock, i had asked as several other waiting guests had asked to see the manager, who was "on his way." The young staff were trying their best but were left in a very unprofessional situation. I am in the service business and you have to accomodate your customers. By 6 o'clock, my wife, made a rather vocal request to see the 3 hour "on his way" manager and her and another guest were asked to step outside. We stepped outside and the manager Mr. Mike Witte appeared about five minutes later. He stated the owner walked in while my wife was expressing her dissatisfaction and because he felt she was treating his staff rudely our reservation is cancelled. What my wife said to the lovely young front desk staff trying their best was "you kids could be my kids. this isn't about you. the manager or 911 needs to come now." Her appeal was supported by the other ten people in the lobby who could be heard saying such things as "i have been waiting for my room since 1" "I am an event planner and I booked two nights and still have not gotten my room" "I don't want another free drink" "the three rooms they put me in, the air conditioning was broken in all three." "the headboard was dirty" "this hotel is the only one on the beach of long beach, captive audience, so they can do what they want." When the wave of complaints started my wife and this other gentlemen they thought was her husband were asked to leave to wait for Mr. Witte outside. He came and stared at her and then told us our reservation was cancelled. She said to him trying to put things in perspective "my mom died of cancer" to which he immediately and curtly replied "we all have had bad things happen." This is a place my heart would never feel good about staying in. Beautiful location, lovely young staff, horrible manager.
