I recently went to Sun N Sound for the weekend. I was disapointed when I walked into the room. The screen door was falling off, the deck had green mold all over it, and the kitchen appliances were very old, and the room smelled odd.
I have to say that the people who worked there were so kind and that the sunsets over the water were magnificent. It is hard to sleep if you get a room on the bottom level because all we heard were the footsteps from the people above us and each footstep from the running kids in the room next to us.
The location is great if you want an oceanview. You will feel like you are on a cruise when you look out your room window. Still, I doubt that I will ever stay there again because of the noise and the fact that the place needs major updating.

We stayed on the lower level facing the sound during the peak season, and it was $180 a night plus tax. I'd say the location is great, but the room could use a face-lift. The kitchen and bathroom show signs of age and deterioration. Not sure about the other rooms, I don't feel the kitchenware are in the condition they should be for the price we paid for. The can opener was rusty and not usable. If you want to cook, buy your groceries from big name supermarkets in your home town. The prices in the nearby market were outrageous... we could have enjoyed some fancy seafood fare with the money we spent on making spaghetti and meatball.

We went to Sun N' Sound based on its #3 rating. For $275 per night, we expected more. The room phones didn't work--no explanation offered. The screen door kept falling off. The room and exterior was in need of a facelift. On the plus side, the view was great--on the sound side. The location was peaceful--much better than that of Ocean Beach or Royal Atlantic. Those locations having gone down hill from eight years ago--(noisy riffraff,etc.) In short, there are few great places to stay in Montauk. Once you get past Panoramic and maybe Driftwood, the pickings are slim. And far too expensive.

Had a great time at Sun n Sound we go to Montauk every June for a week and our first time at Sun n Sound. Despite the weather had a wonderful time and my husband fish the entire week as he usually does.

The room was nice the housekeeping service very good. Have recommended the place to friends. Will be there next summer. Might even go out this fall.
