Comfort Inn Prospect Point is physically the closest hotel to the American Falls. It is located at the end of the built up attractions on the US side (which includes the defunct Rainbow Outlet Mall, the Seneca Niagara Casino, other hotels in the area). It is a brief 5 minute at most walk to the visitor center, the New York side Observatory, and crossing a pedestrian bridge the Bridal Veil Falls, Horseshoe Falls are accessible.
I think Comfort is a good description. This is a good value, medium range hotel. It has not been upgraded to the most modern beds, decor and business and recreational amenities, but for Comfort, it fits the bill. Even # rooms face North West and overlook the rapids above American Falls, odd # rooms face South East and overlook the NF State Park, Canada in the distance wtih all the towers and built up hotels looming. There is convenient and plentiful parking on site, there is an exercize room but no pool. Clearly the adjacent falls are the attraction. There is a smattering of restaurants, we tried the Red Coach Inn a block away, a traditional type restaurant, Tudor style, you'd expect more to see in Canada, than US. Excellent h'ors d'oeuvres and solid entrees.
Obviously NF NY has seen hard times. The addition of the Seneca Niagara Casino, while ostensibly provding hundreds of jobs, hasn't been the economic catalyst except for maintaining some of the loding in the area. Casinos are generally insulating properties (try to keep the customers in the dark, onsite with entertainment, eating, shopping, don't let them out of the building). So there is great activitiy at casino, not much trickling down outside
They are strict about 3pm checkin and 11am checkout, with some flexibility to stay an hour or less longer. There is an onsite restaurant/diner/pub type and during the day there is a lobby access to a small "Promenade" with some food, games, and souvenir shopping available. Driving from Buffalo, take Robert Moses Parkway, get off at Niagara Falls 4th Street, turn left on Rainbow Boulevard, drive past a traffic circle to get access to the Comfort Inn's parking lot. Interestingly enough, within walking distance of the Inn are two Indian restaurants.
