We spent 3 wonderful nights at Alexander's Boutique Hotel of Oia on the island of Santorini, Greece. We went in August of 2007 in the middle of a heat wave in Greece. Needless to say, it was great coming back to our hotel and having our air conditioner to cool off with. The staff was very helpful and friendly, arranging our ride from the port of Fira upon our arrival and to the airport for our departure. The staff members made several appointments for us, including couple's massages at a great spa in town. They also helped us choose the locations for our evening meals and made the reservations and arranged rides for us. We loved the spa and the restaurants that they suggested, and everything was exactly what we were looking for. The staff and owners of this hotel really know how to pamper their guests! They truly went above and beyond our expectations.
The hotel itself was so charming and cozy, and we loved the ambiance of the cave houses. We stayed in the Emerald Cavehouse Villa and it was so special- like a second honeymoon! We loved the furniture and layout of the rooms, and the view was spectacular. Another couple that we traveled with stayed in the Citrine Cave house which was also adorable. All of the rooms at this hotel are beautiful and inviting. Our favorite thing about the hotel was the beautiful terrace outside our front door with the amazing view of the caldera. We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace every morning. The breakfast is quite delicious and also very private, and it is served right outside your front door. We also liked that we could walk into town from our hotel. However, the hotel is situated more on the outskirts of the main strip, which has its pros and cons. For one thing, it was much quieter and more peaceful than if we had stayed on the main strip, which is crowded with tourists. So we didn't mind the short walk into the heart of town.
Our only complaint at all (if we have to have one) is that the pool is shared with another hotel, and the pool is a few blocks down the street at the other hotel. The pool was nice, but it was not the pool we saw on the website, and so this was our only disappointment. Although the pool was very clean and quiet and had a nice snack bar, which we enjoyed. We were expecting a pool overlooking the caldera, and the actual pool does not have a view. Other than that, our 3 nights in Oia at Alexander's could not have been more comfortable, romantic, and relaxing, with much thanks to the thoughtful care and planning of the staff at Alexander's. We hope to return soon, and we highly recommend it!
