I was travelling with my adult daughter and had these requirements: 2 separate beds, A/C, swimming pool and priced around $300. After extensive research, I came up with a few choices, but in the end like in all real estate, location, location, location was the deciding factor.
I strongly urge anyone going to Santorini to choose the town of Oia-pronounced EEAA -over Fira, the main town. It is where every photo of Greecian Islands is taken and where all in the know come to see the famous sunsets. In the case of the Oia Mare hotel, it is THE spot for sunset and views of the caldera. No other hotel has both views in this price catagory.
We had a 2 bedroom traditional house villa which means they have carved out a cave, smoothed it over and painted it white. They are actually little apartments completely equipped with full kitchens. Daylight comes from the front door and windows with sweeping magnificent views. The suite was very large-#101- and could easily sleep 5 if necessary.
Words of caution: There are many stairs leading to the hotel so this is not for those who have difficulty walking.
There is no restaurant but breakfast is served each morning. There is no bar, but if you request a bottle of wine, you can get it. Since you have a kitchen, it is cheaper and easier to purchase some at a wine vendor in the town.
I would strongly suggest that you arrange for a taxi to pick you up at the ferry or airport and have it written in that they will assist you with your luggage in both directions and will provide a voucher stating this. It would be utterly impossible to handle luggage on your own.
Enjoy your stay.
