Went here last June, and loved our stay. The views are fantastic. The room we got was nice, overlooking the volcano. We watched the famous Oia sunset right at our patio! We had a great time. It looks and feels like a family-run business, so problems are dealt with personally. One day, we woke up too late for the scheduled breakfast, (an hour after the end of breakfast) yet when we asked, they still served us! We were grateful, considering we were going on a hike up the ruins at the top of the mountain. The location is just right, away from the downtown which is sometimes crazy with people, but near enough. I suggest getting a car to drive around though. It's easier to get around the little island that way (we went during low-season, so we didnt have problems about having too many tourists around) Plus it's a little dangerous walking around the narrow streets. The room was cleaned everyday. I will recommend this place for first timers like us! Especially if you're looking for a nice, romantic place... :)

I am Greek and travel to the Greek islands all the time. Oia is the most majestic spot on the island- 99% of all the famous photographs you have seen of Santorini come from Oia. If you choose to stay in the center of Oia its very expensive and limited in space, no pool, etc. This hotel is about a 5-10 minute walk to Oia (a very nice little walk i might add). It has a lot more room that any other place in OIa, has a nice size pool- situated on a cliff so that you can swim and lounge in your chair with a breathtaking view. The prices are very good. Last summer we stayed in their mazonette- 6 girls for 250 Euros a night total. The bathrooms and sheets were cleaned daily as well as the place tidied up. We had a stove and cooked and ate on our beautiful balcony. I did not have a problem with the service. The owner's sons name is Giorgos and he handles most issues. I found him pleasant and very helpful. I would DEFINETLY come here again

“a bad experience”

As many others write, the view from this location is the high of the stay. On the other hand the accomodation do not live up to the brochures by any stretch of the imagination; They are tired and need a lot of work. Our accomodation for four was extremly disappointing, with doors that show huge cracks to the outside, toilets that do not flush properly (when complaints were made we were told that in Greece toilets do not flush the same way as in Europe), with no plugs for the sinks, and general below standard. When inquired about a return of the deposit, we were refused...so had to live ot that deposit before moving to another location of my better value for the same money....

We stayed in the Volcano Villa's for 4 nights in Sep 2007.

The rooms were ready upon arrival. We had a party of 4 adults and reserved a 4-person apartment. The room had a nice bedroom with a queen bed on the ground floor. The queen room also had an A/C unit, door and access to the large balcony. The 2nd 'bedroom' was in the upstairs loft area. The loft bed got rather warm at night. There was 1 bathroom which could use some updating. The kitchen has a fridge and is stocked with utensils and some small appliances.

While we were traveling with close friends, we felt a little too close for comfort, espcially with only 1 closing bedroom. The hotel had some vacancies and we were able to negotiate adding another room. The 4+ person apartments are probably fine for families with children.

The hotel property itself has a beautiful view of the caldera as well as the sunsets. We loved the pool area and spent many hours just staring out at the view. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk into downtown Oia. We did love being away from Fira and on the outskirts of Oia. There is also a bus stop right in front of the hotel which we didn't use as we had rented 4-wheelers. The Taverna Mou is just down the street and is a great place for some greek food and music.

The hotel desk staff seemed largely indifferent then what you might expect, but they were helpful with whatever we asked of them.

Overall for the price, we were satisfied with our stay here and would recommend this place.

Volcano Villas is a lovely little complex situated a little way outside the village of Oia. When we arrived we were a little disappointed that it wasn't located in the village but actually having spent a week there think that it is a much better place to stay. The village of Oia is beautiful, having explored the island definately felt that it is the best place to stay, the short (10ish minutes) walk from Volcano Villas to Oia initially takes you down what can only be described as a 'dirt track' there is no lighting but its really not a problem as you feel perfectly save, just don't attempt it in high heels! After about 3 or 4 minutes you come out to a water processing station (sounds industrial but don't let it put you off) you then reach the path to Oia 'proper' and the view of the village and all the white and blue roofs is just lovely we just stood and took it in and surrounded ourselves in the beauty and atmosphere of it. As you walk down through Oia you go past some lovely hotels and houses but few have their own pools and few will get a view of the sunset. That is whats good about Volcano Villas there is a fair sized pool directly on site with plenty of sunloungers and whilst because of the structure of the building not all apartments have a gauranteed view of the sunset, all you have to do is walk 10 metres to the cliff area in front of the building where little tables and chairs are set up and you can watch the sun go down without having to deal with the crowds that go into the main village (it gets absolutely jam packed don't go down there if you get anxious in crowds). The villa's are also ideally located for taking the walk across the caldera rim to Fira which is about 12km away and is well worth doing, you can get the bus back from Fira for a couple of Euros.

The apartment we stayed in was fine, basic facilities but more spacious than a traditional hotel room and somehow more of an authentic experience. One negative the bed was rock hard, very uncomfortable and not great for a good nights sleep; this can be tackled by putting the blankets supplied across the mattress and this softens them significantly. The owners are very laid back, pleasant people, if you want something they will do their best to help out but generally they are pretty non-intrusive which was good for us as the whole experience was about chilling out.

I would certainly recommend Volcano Villas as providing a good location and very good value for money given the prices that you can expect to pay in Oia village itself, but don't choose it if you are used to 5 star luxury and expect there to be someone there to your beck and call as it won't be for you.
