“Lovely Hotel”

Strogili Traditional Houses

We just spent 10 days in Greece, three in Santorini. This hotel had lovely view of caldera, a very nice breakfast that they bring right to your room, and the bed was super comfy.

My top top is to eat at the restaurant right across the street! Anemomilos Restaurant had the BEST food we ate in Greece and it is so cheap! Try the lamb in papers!

Keep in mind that this hotel is just a little walk along a street with no sidewalks before you get to the main village's walkways so you have to dodge cars and bikes on a narrow road for about 3 to 5 minutes to get into the easier to navigate walkways. No big deal but I imagine if you have small children or are older you might not like that but it was no big deal for us.

Another tip is to contact the hotel and ask them to arrange a taxi to pick you up if you arrive by ferry because we felt stranded by the port when we arrived - we thought there would be cabs but there were hardly any and none wanted to drive to Oia so we found a bus to Fira but then it was another hour wait to connect to Oia. Or, it's wise to just rent a car and pick it up at the port - we found it easy to drive around Santorini and the best way to get around to places like Thira.

I am shocked at the few complaints recently about Strogili Houses and their management. Our stay could not have been better! I began corresponding with Popi, the owner's daughter, 7 months before our week-long stay. She was extremely helpful and prompt with her replies. My husband and I chose Strogili in large part because of all the great reviews we had found on trip advisor and other websites.

Popi arranged for a taxi for us on arrival (and departure) at the airport. She met us at the cab when it arrived and she and her father carried out luggage for us both times. The accommodations couldn't have been nicer or cleaner - the beds very comfortable, the bathroom large enough for 2, and we NEVER had a shortage of hot water in either the bathroom or kitchen. Sure, you needed to turn on the hot water heater 30 minutes before you bathed, but that's no big deal. By the way, the kitchen was very well equipped and we fixed our own breakfast and ate on the terrace each morning - could not have been more beautiful.

We had intended to rent a car, but inasmuch as the bus stop was right in front of the hotel, we never did. Everything worked out so well for us - Popi was most helpful with suggestions for restaurants, where to go, what to see, etc. She was almost always available when we stopped by reception or called on the phone. If she wasn't available immediately, she called or came down to our cave house within 30 minutes or less.

We also really enjoyed the restaurant across the street from the hotel (Anemomilos) and ate there twice. Our week at Strogili was fantastic - so relaxing. I can assure you that we will definitely stay at Strogili if we return to Santorini

My husband and I spent five days at Strogili House - we loved it and will always remember our stay there.

Popi was was very helpful when we communicated by e-mail several times before our arrival. We called her the day before we arrived and she arranged for a taxi to meet us at the port. When we got out of the taxi at Strogili House, she was there to greet us and show us to our room.

When I stepped onto the property which overlooks the Caldera, I actually had tears come to my eyes because it was so beautiful - everything I had hoped for.

Popi's father, who is no spring chicken, helped us with our luggage.

Our accommodation was spacious, quaint, and very clean. Everything in our apartment was in working order and we had everything we needed.

You will be pleased to know that the photos on the Strogili website are a good depiction of what the hotel looks like. It is beautiful, clean, and well situated.

There are many good restaurants and shops to enjoy in Oia. The village is very small - if you're looking for a lot of action and night life, this is not the place to go. But...if you want peace and quiet and wish to enjoy beautiful surroundings, we would highly recommend it.

We would recommend Strogili House without reservation. It is great!

“Could probably do better”

Strogili Traditional Houses

The two reviews recently posted describe a lot of what I was going to write. The Hotel Strogili is towards the eastern end of the very charming town of Oia at the tip of Santorini. This area of town is pretty quiet, but I doubt that many places in Oia have noise trouble regularly, since all the hotels are built down the caldera slope from the main street or pedestrian way. The views from Strogili are wonderful, but can certainly be had from other hotels.

Like other reviewers here, the woman we dealt with through email and in person was not very friendly. Our credit card was charged for one night's stay when we booked the room, and when we questioned this through an email, we received an impolite response. Most hotels reserve your credit card information in case you are a no-show or trash the room, but do not charge your for your stay unless you request it. It is possible that our email exchange prior to our arrival landed us in the worst room of the hotel (#6), which seemed smaller than the other regular studios and most certainly had a smaller terrace area. The entire bathroom fit only one person, and the shower was impossibly small.

In order to get your breakfast, you have to tell them the day before at what time you would like it to be served. On one occasion, it seemed our request was never recorded and so we waited about 30 extra minutes the next day to eat, after the serving lady asked if we were going to have breakfast. The breakfast itself we liked. The bed was not uncomfortable, but was walled in on three sides, which came from the room design but still felt cramped. We did not use the air conditioning, but tried turning it on without any luck. Having to turn on the heat to the shower 30 minutes in advance is a pain if you want to head out directly. To avoid getting cold water, we turned off the flow while soaping up. The mini-fridge, hot plates, and flatware are nice to have if you eat in. I thought the pool was very cold and too far from the hotel, right along the pedestrian walkway.

During our stay, we paid an average price of 120 euro per night for a regular studio.

The views were absolutely gorgeous but many other hotels in Ia have similar views over the caldera. The rear part of our apartment was a cave, which was OK. The apartment was pleasant and fairly spacious with a kitchenette. The AC unit worked fine. The breakfast was served on our private balcony but it was very basic - coffee, juice, bread, soft-boiled egg, butter & jelly, and yogurt. The two negatives that would preclude us from ever coming back were 1) the shower and 2) staff issues. Like the previous poster, we followed their instructions for heating up water but the system is completely inadequate. The WARM water ran out after about 2 minutes, if not less. Not acceptable for the price we paid and it's something they can easily upgrade. The bathroom was also smallish. Secondly, their primary English speaker, Popi, who I assume is the owner's daugher can be at best described as aloof and indifferent. While her relatives seem very cordial, they speak limited or no English so they rely on Popi. She seems tired of her job or perhaps resentful to be stuck in her family business so she puts in the least amount of effort when asked to help. Either she provides no assistance or her answer amounts to "I don't know". She clearly pretends to be clueless about everything so she doesn't have to talk to guests. Her parents should encourage her to seek other employment because they won't be getting any repeat customers. The Canadian shopkeeper next door, on the other hand, was the complete opposite and a wonderful source of information. She greatly improved our stay in Ia with helpful tips.

Dear guest,
In response to your comments posted I’m rather disappointed that we didn’t resolve the issues mentioned. If you had approached me in the reception , they would most likely had been solved. Therefore I wasn’t being insensitive to your issues. My family and I try to assist our guests as much as possible our knowledge, however at times, such as yourself I might gave the impression of having no interest for you. I strongly feel that your judgment on me and my attitude was unfair and offensive towards me. I work with my family since I was 15 and I inform you that we have repeat customers for more than 12 times. That must mean something about if me and our staff do our job good ore not. The attitude you describe is not even close to the person I am. I do take my job seriously with no afford as you claim. I ‘m really sad about the impression you have for us and our business and if your vacation was ruined because of us we are sorry .
