The two reviews recently posted describe a lot of what I was going to write. The Hotel Strogili is towards the eastern end of the very charming town of Oia at the tip of Santorini. This area of town is pretty quiet, but I doubt that many places in Oia have noise trouble regularly, since all the hotels are built down the caldera slope from the main street or pedestrian way. The views from Strogili are wonderful, but can certainly be had from other hotels.
Like other reviewers here, the woman we dealt with through email and in person was not very friendly. Our credit card was charged for one night's stay when we booked the room, and when we questioned this through an email, we received an impolite response. Most hotels reserve your credit card information in case you are a no-show or trash the room, but do not charge your for your stay unless you request it. It is possible that our email exchange prior to our arrival landed us in the worst room of the hotel (#6), which seemed smaller than the other regular studios and most certainly had a smaller terrace area. The entire bathroom fit only one person, and the shower was impossibly small.
In order to get your breakfast, you have to tell them the day before at what time you would like it to be served. On one occasion, it seemed our request was never recorded and so we waited about 30 extra minutes the next day to eat, after the serving lady asked if we were going to have breakfast. The breakfast itself we liked. The bed was not uncomfortable, but was walled in on three sides, which came from the room design but still felt cramped. We did not use the air conditioning, but tried turning it on without any luck. Having to turn on the heat to the shower 30 minutes in advance is a pain if you want to head out directly. To avoid getting cold water, we turned off the flow while soaping up. The mini-fridge, hot plates, and flatware are nice to have if you eat in. I thought the pool was very cold and too far from the hotel, right along the pedestrian walkway.
During our stay, we paid an average price of 120 euro per night for a regular studio.
