“Excellent Hotel/Staff/View”

Aigialos

We were shown the Aigialos by our travel agent, and while the brochures of many hotels oversell the property, the brochures of this establishment do not do it justice. The view from our room, the deck just above our room was beyond description and truly fabulous, being about 1000' above the Aegean Sea. Even our teen aged sons were awed...and that says a lot.

The staff(we dealt primarily with Olga and Dimitri)was as helpful as the view was beautiful. We didn't have any pre-set schedule, and Olga helped us plan fun filled days with some excellent suggestions that kept everyone happy.

When you stay in a small "pocket" hotel, you expect personal service and that's exactly what we got here. By the end of our stay saying goodby was indeed sad.

If you're going to Santorini, and are looking for a special spot, this might fit the bill. If we ever return, we will go back to the Aigialos.

This year we spent our holidays in Greece, on the beautiful and unique island of Santorini. We stayed at the lovely "Aigialos Hotel", which was recommended by some friends, as being the nicest one there. Our experience has shown exactly that. The hotel is located in the Fira area and was really fantastic. The view from the hotel is unforgettable, as It is directly overlooking the sea and the dormant volcano opposite. The layout of the rooms and the service provided by the hotel staff made our stay in Greece a memorable one. We plan to return with the first opportunity.

I have just spent the most wonderful holiday on Santorini Island. I did not think that hotels like the Aigialos existed in Greece. From the moment I and my friend arrived we were made to feel so welcome. The setting is ideal, small, original, traditional houses, each with their own individual style. They are decorated with antique furniture and original paintings, lamps etc. There is a small swiming pool in a quiet garden setting. This is a very intimate hotel with impeccable service. I was so impressed by this GEM of a hotel, that I felt bound to share my discovery with other travellers. It is in a quiet corner of the town of Thira, but only 2 mins walk to the restaurants, clubs and shops. I have already made my reservation for next year!

“Poor value, unimpressive”

Aigialos

My wife and I recently stayed there for our honeymoon, and we were shocked at the utter lack of value in Aigialos. Coming from the Blue Palace in Crete (an outstanding hotel), we had expected something magnificent given that Aigialos was nearly 200 euros per night more. What we got was a tiny shower with no curtain, furniture that simply looked old rather than "antique," reusable shampoo and conditioner bottles, and a switch to flip 30 minutes before we wanted hot water. That said, the view is indeed spectacular, but for 575 euros per night, I would have expected much more from this hotel. It was a total disappointment, and I would advise anyone who likes to feel as though they were getting his or her money's worth to avoid this hotel.

I visited Aigialos with my fiancée last summer, in July 2005. We stayed for 10 days – 10 wonderful days!
We very much believe in the first impressions: this one was extraordinary, and it was just the beginning! The hotel stands on the cliff and it has an extraordinary – breathtaking view to the volcano, we could not stop staring and gazing at this magical spectacle!
Our room was spacious enough and comfortable, with shiny marbles all over. Its interior decoration was very stylish and luxurious, it seemed that all furniture was hiding a mystery of ancient culture and civilization….
The staff of Aigialos was very kind and helpful, they even gave us tips on the island, where to eat, what to definitely visit, etc.
The general impression was the best of course, we told all our friends, showed them photos… You cannot imagine how jealous they got!!!
We will definitely visit AIGIALOS again - most probably for our honeymoon!
