We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Aressana Hotel. Although we had read other reviews on here before booking, the hotel even surpassed our expectations. This is due to the fact that it has undergone a significant facelift for 2008. A spa is being finished at the moment and the whole hotel is being themed as a spa resort.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful and on arrival made us feel very welcome. Our room was just right, nice size, decent bathroom plus a balcony which was great for sitting out in for the late afternoon sun.
The breakfast was nice, lots of choice of food and the freshly made omlettes were a particular highlight my wife and I enjoyed. The pool area was spot on too. It has a decent sized pool (certainly large enough considering most other guests thought the water was too cold to venture in so plenty of room for us!). The pool area has a really interesting array of four poster style benches with plump cushions. Be warned though - you need to get poolside early to claim one for the day!
Location wise the hotel was in a perfect spot for exploring Fira. It is on the edge of town but close to everything including the cable car within a 10 minute walk.
We recommend trying the restaurants away from the Caldera view which offer far better value for money - particularly Nicolas and Dionysis, both on the same street close to each other. The hotel doesn't serve evening meals but does serve food at lunch by the pool though we didn't try this offering.
We will certainly stay at this hotel again when we come back to Santorini sometime.
