We just returned from the Greek Islands and we stayed 5 nights at the Kavalari. You can't beat the view -it's an excellent location and there are many terraces to view the caldera. I would recommend going out to breakfast though and not getting the breakfast there - the first day we had bread, coffee (not offered tea), orange juice and fruit and yogurt. The second day the same but no fruit and yogurt. The third day I asked for it and was told that the other people "pay". I guess that meant they left a big tip? She called the front desk and Georgi (front desk - awesome guy told us everything to do on the island) said no problem. It was very awkward with the breakfast lady though and we didn't go back. The bread wasn't very good anyways. The rooms are musty, so if you're highly allergic, not the best place. Also, don't plan on doing any laundry and letting anything dry out - it won't dry out. This includes towels and swim suits. We took our laundry into a laundry place and they did a great job. Oh - they also upgraded us to a nicer room with a view for free since they had some open and that was great. The hotel is right in the middle of shops and cafes/restaurants so very convenient. The bus system in Santorini is very nice - just take a look in Fira when your bus is coming back to Fira as it's often not posted at the location (like Akortiri) so we had to wait three hours there. Very nice and clean buses though (and cheap - taxis are pretty pricey).
