We just returned from the Greek Islands and we stayed 5 nights at the Kavalari. You can't beat the view -it's an excellent location and there are many terraces to view the caldera. I would recommend going out to breakfast though and not getting the breakfast there - the first day we had bread, coffee (not offered tea), orange juice and fruit and yogurt. The second day the same but no fruit and yogurt. The third day I asked for it and was told that the other people "pay". I guess that meant they left a big tip? She called the front desk and Georgi (front desk - awesome guy told us everything to do on the island) said no problem. It was very awkward with the breakfast lady though and we didn't go back. The bread wasn't very good anyways. The rooms are musty, so if you're highly allergic, not the best place. Also, don't plan on doing any laundry and letting anything dry out - it won't dry out. This includes towels and swim suits. We took our laundry into a laundry place and they did a great job. Oh - they also upgraded us to a nicer room with a view for free since they had some open and that was great. The hotel is right in the middle of shops and cafes/restaurants so very convenient. The bus system in Santorini is very nice - just take a look in Fira when your bus is coming back to Fira as it's often not posted at the location (like Akortiri) so we had to wait three hours there. Very nice and clean buses though (and cheap - taxis are pretty pricey).

We stayed at the Kavalari for 3 nights during our stay in Santorini. I looked at many, many other hotels in Fira as options, but am so glad we chose the Kavalari. From the great location (right in the center of town) to the amazing view (direct view to the caldera) it was the perfect spot to be on the perfect Greek Island. Giorgos was so helpful with his knowledge of the island and recommendations on what to see & do.

Our party of four just returned from Greece, and our stay in Santorini at the Kavalari was the highlight. The hotel is nice and the staff very friendly, but it was the view that mattered most.

We stayed in a larger room (4 adults) with kitchenette, and noticed a little musty smell as others have reported. But since it was Sept., it was not that bad. Besides, we were always on the terrace watching sunsets, the caldera, cruise ships coming & going below, etc.

We found the breakfast quite good - breads and croissants with various jams, honey, butter, etc. And the breakfast server was friendly and helpful. Fresh squeezed OJ is also part of the breakfast.

A hotel stay in Santorini with caldera views is expensive; we did not think we could afford it. The Kavalari was reasonably priced and so we were able to do so. And it is worth it; the views are stunning. Sunsets from the terrace are a dream.

Four thumbs way up for the Kavalari!!

“Totally Disappointed...”

Hotel Kavalari

Someone recommended the Hotel Kavalari to me when I told them my cousin & I would be going to Santorini. He said the cave room was amazing. Well...if you don't get the cave room be prepared to stay in
what felt like a Hostel. The beds were more like cots and less than a foot off the floor. The toilet, television and phone didn't work. And...let me tell you, our room looked absolutely nothing like anything on the website. Please avoid this hotel at all costs.
