Date: 8th September to 17th September 2007

On arriving at the airport, we were picked up by private car and taken to our hotel. On our arrival we were greeted with a cool towel and glass of champagne, then we were taken to the lounge where we filled in the necessary hotel documentation. We were then taken to our Superior Room overlooking the sea. The room itself wasn’t anything special in décor, although it had a king-size bed and tea and coffee facilities and a fridge. The bathroom was quite large but we have had better bathrooms with better facilities. We were only a few yards from the beach, so it was a case of fall out of bed on to a sun bed, beach towels were also provided.

All the meals were good, plenty of choice for breakfast and lunch. And in the evening, they put on a different theme night every night like Italian Night, Asian Night ,etc with the food based on the theme country, Talking about the theme nights, because I didn’t like the choice of food relating to some of the countries, I just mentioned it to the restaurant manager early in the day and he arranged for the kitchen to prepare a meal that I did enjoy.

We did a couple of day trips, and on one day we asked for a packed lunch each, and they came in large carry boxes. Quantity and choice-wise, there was so much food, that one box would have been enough for both of us.

The hotel had a glass-bottom boat that was free, but when we went out on it we didn’t see many fish and the coral was not very good. Especially when you compare it with the Red Sea coral.

Whilst we were in Mauritius, we did the walk on the sea bed and that was good, really enjoyed that. It was a nice relaxing holiday but we found a week was long enough.

“Perfect Wedding Venue”

Pavillons Hotel

1 Nov 2007

We have just returned from the most perfect wedding imaginable. We booked this hotel after much deliberation and website searches and can honestly say we were not disappointed with a thing.

The unpredictable weather experienced the 11 days we stayed was very unusual for October but did not spoil our trip. We had heavy rain for
2-3 days, thick cloud in spells but generally the sun and breeze kept
us more than happy on the beaches.

The hotel itself was immaculate and I cant believe its closing for a refit next year (personally we couldn't fault it). The staff were incredibly friendly and polite and nothing seemed too much trouble. No matter what the question was the answer was always OF COURSE...

Our suite was very attentively cared for by Linda. The resturant managers Vic and Vichy could not do enough to help and always made it
their job to personally greet every guest with a smile and sincere welcome. The staff in the Tam Tam bar are equally warm with their welcome and never left you with an empty glass for long. The guys in the boathouse we always on hand to get you started with a kiyak or pedalo though they really should not have let my husband lose on a sailing boat...that said once he had capsized us the secuirty boat was very quick to rescue the situation.

We can not praise Manie enough...she was the wedding planner and does her job to perfection. The hotel only allow one wedding per day so the happy couple feel special and trust me when I tell you we did.
If we had the chance to change a single one thing we wouldn't. Manie
had the entire day wrapped up and running smoothly with both Bride and Groom feeling they were the two most important people on the island. We were lucky enough to meet a lovely family on our trip and they too made our wedding day as special as it was. One filmed the whole thing for us (after taking the groom for a calming beer) and the other took the most amazing photos throughought the day and sent them to us on disc. Even their daughter ran to get tissues when the tears threatened to spoils the make-up. Many of the hotel guests love
a good wedding and came to watch and congratulate the happy couple.

The hotel is not full of children and does not have the usual mini-disco and kids clubs that the med offers - but that's why we went really!! There are children there and if they love water then great but on a rainy day they would need entertaining.

All in all we would like to assure any future guests they will not be disappointed with this hotel. If your idea of a holiday is relaxation then this is the place for you. With cold drinks and pizza served to the beach along with a cold towel to cool you down you do not want for a thing. The staff are great the atmosphere is faultless and the scenes are amazing.

“How bad!”

Pavillons Hotel

I wish I had seen the review from Hants Tourist. We had such a similar experience it's untrue, stained bed sheets, too much contact from staff who when you said 'no, it's not all right' didn't know what to do, there was an awful smell for 50% of our walk from restaurant to hotel room, which was also full of ants, very tired, dated, awful bathroom, and dirty bed linen.

We left after one night, and would have left sooner had we been able to arrange alternate accomodation at 9pm.

The staff were seriously in need of training. Don't mistake, smiling all the time for good customer service. No one wanted to take ownership of our problems and we eventually engineered the transfer to another hotel ourselves.

The food was not great, the room was awful, the grounds stank, the staff were incompetent. The pool area at night looked ok and the location is probably spot on but we left before we could find out and went to another hotel on the east of the island.

Avoid.

“Seriously good holiday”

Pavillons Hotel

We chose Les Pavillons after carefully researching lots of hotels throughout the Indian Ocean - (Maldives, Seychelles etc). We were not disappointed - the 2 weeks were fantastic.

The staff were excellent - friendly, helpful and courteous - the room was fine; clean, spacious and well appointed. The accommodation is a mixture of bungalows and two storey appartment blocks which fan out along the beach in broad crescents from either side of the main hotel complex.

Lets get the niggles out of the way - like other reviewers, we landed early morning after an 11 hour overnight flight (BA from Heathrow) and arrived at Les Pavillons at approx 0930 where we were greeted with a refreshing coconut cocktail and seated in the reception lounge - it then dawned on us that we were expected to wait there until our room was ready - at 1400!!! We weren't impressed with this as we had to illicit this from the staff who were obviously embarrased as this seemed to be standard practice - our travel agent should have told us - just be prepared to step over weary new arrivals in reception when you have been there a day or two.

Dont bother with Mauritian Rupees unless you intend to travel extensively outside the hotel - as the name suggests, Les Pavillons is French owned and everything is priced in € euros!! Therefore, we had to incur two lots of exchange rate commissions from sterling to Rupee to Euro - again something that the travel should (but didnt) have warned us about.

We elected to go all-inclusive which is an absolute bargain - but this means that most meals are of the buffet variety and you will need to get there early else everything will have been sitting around in bain-maries getting stewed and stale - up side was that we didnt have any bad experiences - just that the menu repeats on a weekly rotation - this wasn't a big deal, just be forewarned.

Back to the plus points - The all-inclusive deal was an absolute bargain at about £110 each for the two weeks- all local beer, wine and spirits are included, and since the beer alone was French prices (£3 pint equivalent) we recouped this 3 times over!!

All water sports were included - definitely get yourself a snorkelling kit from one of the beach vendors (very friendly and will take a "no thanks" with grace and humour) - the offshore reef foms your own personal swimming pool and aqaurium and the fish are just as interested in you as you are in them.

If you fancy a change from the buffet meals, there is a beachside a la carte restaurant (Le Provence?) which is excellent and only a supplement of £10 or so each - well worth the change in routine.

Room service for breakfast and dinner - superb at no extra cost save for a nominal tray charge of approx £3.

We had a fabulous holiday here - two weeks was too short - if we return it would be for 3 weeks at least - you will not regret staying at this hotel.

“Loved it!”

The hotel is very relaxed, lovely setting, beautiful beach, very clean and comfortable. Rooms large though could do with a bit of updating though that said were absolutely fine. The hotel is shutting in March for a refurb so will no doubt be gorgeous when complete. Most of the rooms have a view of the sea, ours was a couple of steps from the beach, there are palm trees everywhere - stunning! The beach is probably the best for miles - and the view of the waves crashing on to the coral a few hundred yards away from the shore is amazing!! The beach hawkers do not bother you, they are very polite and leave you in peace, they truly do not bother you. The beach service is great - pieces of home made pizza brought to you everyday.
Food - good choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You order lunch from a menu which was a lovely change to an all inclusive as meant the food was completely fresh! Overall you eat as much as you want of a good choice of cuisines which rotates every week, Indian, Italian etc. Entertainment was very good - lovely piano music, guitar or jazz singers/band every night.
It's a lovely place and would def go again, the staff are all very well mannered, polite and attentive, highly recommended!
