Took my son to the Isles of Scilly for a long weekend where we stayed at St Mary's Hall Hotel and had to write a review as the whole stay from start to finish was exceptional. From the moment we arrived, nothing was too much trouble for the staff - taking our bags to the room, their friendliness throughout and advice and help in organising things for us during our stay.
We had a suite which was exceptionally clean, the beds were wonderfully comfortable and it had everything we could have wanted - the kitchen area was great to have after a long day out exploring, so we could relax on the settee with a well earned cup of tea!
Food wise - breakfast is excellent (highly recommend the full cooked breakfast which is fantastic) with a great choice of cereals, pastries and cooked items.
During our stay we ate in the restaurant, ordered from the bar menu and also had room service and again, I must say how good the food was from each. The main restaurant menu has some really nice choices of both local produce as well as meat from the hotel owners rare breeds farm - so basically we were wanting to order 2 things each evening!!!
The steak off the restaurant menu we rated as the best we had had!!
Off the bar menu - go for the St Mary's Hall Hotel Burger - very nice indeed.
Away from the food - the weather was particularly inclement on a couple of days but the staff once again excelled themselves - organising taxis and phoning the local swimming pool to find out opening times and arranging for us to be taken off and picked up and gave us advice on the range of boat trips operating.
In the hotel lounge - we were delighted to see packs of cards, dominoes, scrabble and a range of board games so whiled away a rainy afternoon really enjoying ourselves - a nice touch to have these things outwardly available.
When the weather was kind - we sat in the hotel garden (a major bonus compared to other hotels we saw) and enjoyed a drink. It was also noticeable that non-residents were coming in to enjoy lunch in the garden - always a good sign.
Clearly this hotel is well cared for, spotlessly clean and with a lovely friendly atmosphere and friendly staff where you really can relax. From talking to other guests, their experience certainly seemed to match ours which suggests consistency of service.
I would have no hesitation in recommending St Mary's Hall Hotel whether you are a family, couple or group. If only more hotels had this approach!
