My husband and our two boys made a trip to Maggie Valley to take our boys to Ghost Town. I found the Abbey Inn online and it fit our budget. The room was clean, but a little musty and damp. It rained while we were there, so that may have been why it was damp. Our room had two double beds, a TV, a small desk, and nightstand and there was very little room to move around in there, but that was fine since we only stayed one night and we weren't spending a lot of time in the room. I didn't like the bathroom, very old looking with and the window did not shut good, but I am very funny about bathrooms. Our sink was a little dirty too, with old shavings on the faucet. My boys liked the shower.
I have to say the mattresses were really comfortable, my husband and I both woke up at 4:30 am and thought we had slept all night which is very unusual for us late sleepers.
We did meet the Tabby cat. He was very sweet and was an added bonus for the boys because Daddy won't let us have a cat at home.
The owners are very nice and personable and take a lot of pride in their motel. It is just really dated, so if your looking for a modern place to stay with modern amenities, you need to look elsewhere. But if you want a nice little retro motel for a pretty decent price then you will be pleased.
The view was great though. I have pics of the view from our room posted here.

My brother and I stayed here on a motorcycle trip that included the Blue Ridge Parkway. Abbey Inn is within two miles of the BRP and provided us a very pleasant stopping point one evening. The view is nice and the motel is close to the restaurants in Maggie Valley.....just a mile or two to town. The rooms were clean. The prices were reasonable and the host was congenial.

We found Abbey Inn by accident. We are glad we did and plan on going back next year. The view was breathtaking. The rooms were clean, neat, and comfortable. A real old fashion motor court.

The rooms are small; there's no A/C; it's a 50's-retro feeling motor hotel -- but we just loved it, turning a two night intended stay into a four nighter -- and still hated to leave.
What made it great for us: the elevation, cool temps, mountain views (you are just elevated over the roadway, so all you see are mountains); the personal attention to detail and friendliness of the owners; proximity to the Parkway; and clean & comfy (if a bit rustic and retro) accommodations. Plus, the reasonable cost -- a relief after 10 days of more expensive (and less comfortable, really) historic inns and B & B's.
We found it relaxing, homey, laid-back --sort of like Maggie Valley itself, which is a little retro-tacky and slightly shabby in a fun way, but also friendly, personal, and welcoming. Got to know the Russian students who worked at the motel and area restaurants; also became very attached to Tiger, one of the owners' three resident kitty cats.
If you want the Ritz, this isn't it -- or if you are nit-picky about a ladybug in the room and want a standardized generic hotel find a Hampton -- but the Abbey was a good experience for us. We definitely want to go back.

After reading several reviews, I eagerly booked a night at the Abbey Inn, only to be disappointed. Their website makes them sound secluded; however, you are on a main road, and we could hear cars/trucks/motorcycles all night. We needed to have our windows open because they don't have AC, so we had to listen to the noise. The room was small and desperately needed a remodel. There were cracks in the walls of the bathroom. Several of the pillows smelt moldy and there were tiny little dead bugs in the bathroom because the windows don't close securely. We would definitely not stay here again because there are other great places to stay in the valley which would have made us happier.

    • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — The website overinflates the properties qualities; beware!
