My wife, parents, and I recently spent four nights at the Nags Head Inn. Originally, I chose it because the hotel staff were very accomodating when we needed room for the night while my father was in the hospital on a previous trip. Also, when you read reviews of the "name brand" hotels in the area, many of them have poor reviews.
Overall, we were very impressed with the quality and cleanliness of the facilities and with the service from the staff. At any given time, there were many staff members on duty, and it was obvious that a lot of time was being spent on cleaning. In the room itself, the bed was very comfortable, much more so than you'd expect in this category of hotel, and the linens were great. When you read information on the hotel, you are led to believe that it has undergone a complete renovation, but that's not exactly true. The bathroom was fairly dated. Nonetheless, it was clean and what I would call "serviceable." I was told by one of the staff members that there are plans to renovate the bathrooms, which will be a nice upgrade. There was a flat-screen TV in the room with a large number of HD channels--far better than you get in any but the most expensive hotels. There was a complimentary continental breakfast that included sweet potato biscuits, a very nice and unexpected touch.
Usually, we don't stay in hotels that don't have exercise rooms, but we decided to go ahead with our plans because the hotel had a membership at the local YMCA. While it's not quite as convenient as having an exercise room on the property, the YMCA itself is little more than a five-minute drive. Plus, the facilities at the YMCA were far superior to what you'd get in a small exercise room at most hotels.
Finally, the room was an outstanding value, too, as we paid $673.00 for four nights (I think we had a buy three get one free deal). Not bad for an oceanfront room with a spectacular view! We would highly recommend the Nags Head Inn and plan to return in the near future.
