I've stayed in a variety of hotels from concrete cinder block to luxury villas, and this hotel was not quite the worst place I've ever stayed, but almost.
Upon checking in, I was required to initial that I would be charged $3/day for a safe in my room. If I did not use it, I could request, upon checkout, that the charge be reversed. I was also asked if I wanted the phone in my room to be connected -- for a charge. I use a cell phone, so did not think I would need it.
I entered my room and looked around extensively for the safe, since the hotel is located next to a bail bonding agency, and it appeared there was a good risk of theft. I could not find a safe. I went down to ask about where the safe was located, and one of the housekeeping staff came by and said that several rooms did not have safes, because they had been stolen. Mine was one of them.
I then attempted to use the "free high-speed wireless internet" that is available at the hotel. After waiting for 10 minutes for the Google page to appear, and being completely unable to connect to my email site, I requested that the phone be connected -- for a charge -- so that I could use dial-up instead. The dial up is at a 36,000 speed, usually too slow for most anything. But, this is more than 5 times faster than the "free high-speed wireless internet" available.
My co-worker then asked me to take a look out of his window on the back side of the hotel. I noticed then that the hotel pool was filled with dark green water. Umm, that looks good.
What will I find next?
