Edward's is a nice little place to stay. I stayed in two different rooms and both were comfortable and clean. The bed's were confortable and the A/C was nice and cold. The only problems I had were in the bathroom. Whoever installed the toilet did so that you practically have to "sidestraddle" it to sit down. Also the showers were about the size of a phone booth. The owners were very nice and I would definately stay there again!

My boyfriend and I spent four days on Ocracoke Island last summer, and we had a wonderful experience staying at Edwards.

We stayed in an efficiency room with two double beds and a kitchenette... a sort of "junior suite." We were really happy with the fact that we also had a screened-in porch to hang out our towels and bathing suits and a place to leave our sandy shoes.

The room was spotlessly clean, the beds were very comfortable, the A/C kept the room very cool, and the kitchen was stocked with basic dishes, pots/pans, and silverware so we could make our own lunches and breakfasts every day. The room was also furnished with 1950s/1960s-type beach decor, which I really liked because it felt very homey and old-fashioned.

The inn was staffed by the husband and wife owners and their adult son, who treated us with total courtesy and kindness. They also provided us with bicycles for a small extra fee during the days we were there.

The hotel is ideally located in town... off the main drag but close enough to walk or ride bikes everywhere. You only need a car to go to the beach (we did try riding our bikes there one day, but I don't recommend it because it's along a busy highway, and with the minimal shoulder on the road, I was sure I was going to be flattened by a car at any moment).

In sum, I highly recommend Edwards of Ocracoke for a relaxing, quiet, and cozy vacation stay. Plus the deserted and pristine beaches at Ocracoke are simply amazing.

“nice spot on the island”

Stayed here for one night as it was one of the cheapest we could find on the island. Was a bit concerned that they specified no refunds in case of hurricane which was a bit unnerving as last time I tried a holiday on OBX we had to cancel as Ophelia had cancelled the ferries. It was all fine this time and the girl on reception was really helpful and even lent me her mobile so i could ring a mate. Room was clean and although the bathroom was small and the loo was right next to the wall, it had all we needed. We had a room with nice rocking chairs outside each room to sit on the veranda. Its close enough to walk to the restaurants/bars of the village and tucked away from highway 12 just enough. I hadn't realised there wasn't breakfast included, but that was fine and there were plenty of options nearby.

Staff were very nice to us, and the room was clean and in decent condition. Of course the decor was out of date, and the bathroom was small. But for the price, my husband I truly enjoyed being in such a special location.

They didn't make us do any chores, and when we asked about the recycling, they told us where that could be done (less than 1/4 mile away, on the way to the beach). Apparently it's hard for them to have it on the property because people don't rinse their containers out, which creates smell and bug problems.

We had two nice rocking chairs on the porch, which we really enjoyed. They also provide free ice if you ask, and for the nights we were there, they left some in a cooler on the front porch of the office for guests to pick up after hours.

“Where money is more important than guests”

This place reminds me of home: dripping faucets, loose door knobs, cobbled repairs to ceiling tiles, etc.

Petty rules: "Customers" are expected to empty the trash, take recyclables to some off premise recycling center, strip beds and put linens in a laundry bag, return cottage to its state in which it was found, put furniture back where found, etc.

We had to leave due to an emergency. Innkeep refused to budge on a refund of unused services. We found the innkeep the most unhospitable chap ever. It's obvious money is very important to him and guest satisfaction immaterial.

Visit Ocracoke, please. It's charming and restful. However, consider another place to stay. These folks just don't get it when it comes to business or making folks feel welcome.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — Ocracoke village is charming; the cottage is not.
    • Disliked — Male owner is unaccomodating to needs of guests. Very money hungry.

All of our Reservations have specific cancellation dates which are explained to customers at the time they make their Reservations. Repairs and Cleanliness are of up most importance to us, since we do not want to jeopardize our 100% Sanitation Rating or disappoint our customers that also cherish the "original ocracoke vintage style accommodations" at the Edwards.
