We were in Pinehurst over Memorial Day weekend to attend a wedding. We stayed two nights at the Pinehurst Resort &CC and, once again, thoroughly enjoyed our visit. This was our 11th stay at this hotel and the staff goes out of their way to make it a pleasant experience. The hotel is old, but has been "modernized" several times over the years. There are all the expected comforts you would find in an upscale resort. The food in the main dining room is excellent, as is the service. We opted for a deluxe room rather than a standard, and for the price differential, it is well worth the expense. Our room was very large ---containing a large desk and work station and a very comfortable sitting area. One of our favorite activities is to rock on the huge porch at the hotel and watch the world go by. One of our party utilized the hotel spa and loved her experience. Of course, there is the golf. The courses are well maintained but very expensive.
A note of caution, a reservation at Pinehurst does not guarantee a room in the main hotel ( The Carolina ). Guests are also housed in a smaller property, The Holly Inn, in Pinehurst village. The Holly Inn is a short 10 minute stroll or free short shuttle ride away, and although it is also a lovely old historic property, the "action" is at the main hotel. I understand that some guests may also be housed in condos in the area. I would hope that would be only by choice. The main hotel is a large, lovely, historic, comfortable and casually elegant place, and is in my opinion, the lodging of choice in Pinehurst. The Pinehurst Resort is a true gem.
