When I stayed at this hotel Hurricane Irene was about to hit North Carolina, this hotel only had one room available and for only one night. The room they gave me had an assortment of problems. I was on the third floor, the drains in the bathroom sink and bathtub drained very slowly. When you flushed the toilet it sounded like Big Ben was ringing and continued to make a whining noise until the tank was full. The elevator was very slow.
The people at the front desk were very nice.
The breakfast was absurd! They had a refrigerator on the right and left side of the counter. The refrigerator on the right contained yogurt and milk. They had my brand of diet yogurt. The refrigerator on the left contained an assortment of paper bags containing different breakfast items, french toast, sausage on a biscuit and a half muffin with cheese on top. After a guest chose one of the bags they had to put it in the adjacent microwave for the amount of time noted on the bag, from one to two minutes. The result was awful, inedible.
No representative from the hotel was in the breakfast area and no other prepared foods were available. I can't say this chain's breakfasts are normally great, but at least they usually have an assortment of two or three choices--this one had none and what it did have was terrible To add injury to insult, there was only one working microwave in which to cook these bags of food--perhaps good because a lot of guests, who stood in line for a long time and finally gave up without eating. Almost forgot as an add-on you could toast Pop Tarts.
There were two waffle-making grills, but again, very crowded and of course you did it yourself. I'm beginning to wonder about Hampton Inn's new policies, they were previously my favorite hotel but it appears they are cutting costs and the quality of their accommodations is suffering. I would never stay at this hotel again. They desk clerks were not at all apologetic about only having one room available for one night and did not attempt to find me a room elsewhere. I was planning a long-term visit and luckily was able to find another room, at Extended Stay, for one-quarter the price.
