We have had ok experiences with Motel 6's in past travels, so on this trip, when we decided to stop for the night, we saw the sign for Motel 6 and decided to stay there. I wish we had stayed someplace else.
The motel was very easy access from the interstate. It was surrounded by stores, restaurants and other motels. Not very attractive, but we weren't there for the scenery. It was convenient that we had so many restaurants to chose from that we could walk to.
We did not have a reservation, but were able to get a room right away. The clerk was friendly enough, but we were kind of disappointed that before finishing our check in, he took a phone call and we had to wait until he was done before getting our keys.
The rooms are all interior which meant we had to haul our stuff inside. The hallway was freezing. The air conditioner was set way too high. And it gave a very uninviting feel to the motel. It was dimly lit, clausterphobic and had a smell to it.
I found out when we got in the room that the smell was stronger. Sort of a chemical smell. It seemed to be coming from the a/c unit, so I turned it off but it only helped minimally. There seemed to be a residue on the unit's vent so I used a tissue to clean it off. Sort of a green mildew . Ugh. And the room was too stuffy to keep the a/c off so we had to put up with the smell. The view out the window was of a chain link fence behind a gas station.
The room seemed fairly clean but was not inviting at all. Not even one piece of artwork. The bedspreads had seen better days and were worn and had holes in them. The pillows were so flat and the mattress springs creaked and had too much give ,probably from being so old. I woke up with a stiff neck and back.
The bathroom had a few minor maintenace issues. It was also relatively clean, but because it was so dated, it looked dingier than it probably was.
Fortunately, the night we stayed there, things were relatively quiet.
The price was ok ($53 for the night), but there were so many other issues that it wasn't really worth it.
