Unfortunately, the hotel/motel situation along the I95 corridor, NY to FL, is pretty dismal. As a rule, we stay at the Marriotts and find them to be clean and well-kept. This stay at the Courtyard, however, left lots to be desired. We arrived at 5:00pm, with a reservation made the day before, and our room was not ready. They upgraded us to a Whirlpool Room, which was not ready either, and aside from being dark and dreary in decor, the carpet within six feet of the whirpool was in tatters. It's been years, I'm sure, since those rooms were painted or refreshed. The water pressure in the shower was almost non-existent, there was no free Continental breakfast as is available in most lower-priced properties, and the desk chair was ripped and broken. On top of everything else, they would not honor either an AARP or AAA discount, which is guaranteed in the AAA Tour Book. As I am an Elite Member of Marriott Rewards I cannot hold out much hope for the average traveler. We were very disappointed with this Courtyard and will pass it by the next time!

We stayed at the Courtyard in Rocky Mount the weekend of July 30, 2005, as part of a family reunion there. Although the staff were courteous and the motel is generally attractive, there were issues and one major problem that minimized the enjoyment of our stay.

1) An $8.95 charge for a hot buffet breakfast. In the era of free hot breakfast buffets at similarly-priced residence motels, this seemed excessive.

2) The failure of the counter clerk to come over and help with a poor wireless connnection in the lobby PC after she said she would.

3) A dirty sock left in our room from a previous occupant.

4) Already-opened shampoo bottles in our rooms.

5) And, the major problem, a smell coming from the bathroom that I unfortunately thought at first was from someone's cheap sulphur perm, but in fact turned out to be a sewer gas leak. I could not get another room the first night because of claims the motel was full, and still thinking the smell would eventually go away, put up with it through the next night. However, when we pressed for extra checkout hours because of this problem before taking an afternnon flight, it was clear staff were aware that the room had a longterm odor problem. So, why were we or anyone put in that room before it was fixed?

Even if our reunion is held there next year, I will stay at another hotel.

Room was clean and in good shape. Free internet if you bring you laptop equipped with wireless....even airport. Staff is very nice, and helpful. Breakfast Buffet not like the regular Marriotts.

Bathroom needed renovation. Tub was broken and unable to drain due to a dent in the bottom. This causes the water to not drain all the way out.
Thought we were in the 1922 Ramada Beachfront in Hollywood, Fl. This was not a new problem. The water had caused the tub to have much rust on the surface.

Was waiting for the Marriott International questionaire to report this, but after 2 months, have not recieved.

If paying full price, we would have called Marriott International before we left. This franchisee doesn't seem to be watching this property.

Our family of 4 stayed here on the way to points farther South and found it to be totally...ok. When we got off the elevator we were surrounded by the smell of ciggarette smoke. We used the courtesy phone and called the front desk and were informed that one end of the hall we were on was non-smoking the other end smoking - odd. The room was uninspired. Not a picture on the walls, carpet was drab and the room all around a bit run down. Odd foam mattresses, decent pillows. It could have been cleaner, but wasn't terrible. The ironing board was a joke...but the iron was new! Breakfast in the morning was very tasty but the staff was mediocre at best and somewhat dismissive. Would we stay again - probably not.
