This was our third time at Girasole. The first visit was great; we had an excellent server and the food and drinks were equally wonderful. We thought we had found a little gem in Wake Forest (see my previous review). The second visit about 6 months later was a little lacking in service but the food was still above average (I had the house-made sausage entree). The third visit, made very recently, Girasole staff and management was completely unprofessional, slow, and rude. We arrived mid-evening and stood at the front for a good 5 minutes with zero welcome from anyone. Not even the bartender, who was not really doing anything about 8 feet away, said hello. A group of people standing near the kitchen, laughing and obviously carrying on (whom I later found out to include the manager) looked our way several times but did absolutely nothing to facilitate us being seating. NOTHING. Finally I leaned over the bar and asked for someone to seat us. Hindsight - we should have taken this as a precursor and walked out altogether. Our server was on the ball, but the rest of the service, including the food, was abysmal. The $9 crab cake appetizer was just plain terrible. It was very small and completely tasteless, and it was served with a watery and bland marinara and a scant handful of 100% bare greens. They weren't even dressed with anything. We sent that back and tried the fondue. It was not at all appetizing - nothing more than a thick brick of cream cheese mixed with a small amount of artichoke and spinach, and also tasteless. They used to have real bread and olive oil w/ spices for you as a gratis starter, and also served with the fondue. Now they have something that tastes and resembles saltine crackers with a tasteless spice mixture on top. Truly, it tastes just like a cracker. I tried the sausage again, and it was completely overcooked and bone dry. The last time it melted in your mouth. It used to have a good amount of a creamy polenta base, but the polenta this time was again, very scant. After talking with our server at length (she was very helpful, and understanding), she walked over to the manger (who now was having a drink WITH her patrons at a nearby table - good grief) to tell her what was going on with our food. The manger didn't say a single thing to us. She didn't even come over. This made our server pretty ticked off and "par", as she put it. After our meal, our server told the manger to talk with us. The manager was very defensive and rude and gave us very much of a "kiss off" kind of vibe. I was astounded at her lack of professionalism and concern. Our server told us that the place was getting progressively worse and we are not the first people to complain about the very same issues. In fact, there were many, many complaints. All told, we will never return to Girasole unless there is new management and an overhaul on how they run their establishment, and a serious improvement from the kitchen. Seriously, for the prices they charge, it's absolutely not worth it for this kind of service and food. I wouldn't even give Girasole one star.
