My husband and I had hoped for a well needed rest for the long weekend. What we got was a room that was either freezing or overheated. The wi-fi was not reliable either. The converted apartment building has no elevator nor is there any staff help to get heavy luggage up to the 3rd floor when the dumb waiter isn't working. We did enjoy the quaint continental breakfast service delivered to our room every morning. The hotel is located in a wonderful area of downtown, but we had trouble finding parking after going out at night. The staff was pleasant but offered no resolution to our problems. We'll return to Wilmington, but not to this hotel.

We had the opportunity to stay at this great little inn/hotel while visiting friends in the area. The first thing you notice is the warm and friendly staff. Even while walking around on the property, every employee we passed spoke to us. Their housekeeping supervisor even stopped us and introduced herself and told us to make sure we let her know if we needed anything in our room. We felt as though we really got to experience the "southern hospitality" this place advertises. The rooms are clean, larger than the standard hotel room and very comfortable. We stayed for a week and had some specail requests that they were happy to accommodate.

When we made our reservation we were emailed a confirmation with a copy of the menu from their restaraunt......amazing menu and even more amazing food. Being from larger metropolitan area, we didn't expect to experience such fine dining in a small southern town, it was first rate. Fabulous food, great ambience and very professional staff. We will definetely go back.

My husband just returned from Iraq in January and I wanted to surprise him with a get away weekend without the kids. I had heard from several other wives that the Wilmingtonian was a great little hotel with different types of rooms for special occasions. The reservationist could not have been more kind and patient with me while I asked her to explain the differences in all the rooms. She told me that booking rooms for returning soldiers and their wives was one of the nicest parts of their jobs. The staff made us feel welcome and like we were VIPs during our stay. Our room was romantic and cozy and we were able to walk everywhere for shopping and entertainment. We are planning our next visit for our anniversary and plan to stay in one of their luxury rooms in the restored mansion on their property.

I was somewhat aghast to see negative reviews of accomodations that our son and future daughter-in-law were recommending to guests for their upcoming wedding. We decided to do a test run of the Wilmingtonian and were pleasantly surprised and pleased. All the rooms have a small kitchen and living area, and ours even had a washer and dryer. Unlike previous reviewers opinions, we felt that the rooms were clean, parking was a breeze, and the location was great. We stayed in the Cinema House, and at least from the outside, all other buildings appeared to be well taken care of also. We plan to stay in the compound for the wedding and would easily recommend it to our wedding guests.

My wife and I stayed in December, 2005. This is a small 40 suite hotel that has 'grown up' from a B&B. Our suite was beyond our expectation and had obviously been recently refurbished. Bright and clean and very comfortable with proper seperate bed and living rooms, and with an adequate bathroom. We enjoyed the rockers on the balcony even though it was December! Dinner in the private dining room in their antebellum mansion was excellent. A 'fresh start' breakfast was delivered to our suite each morning at the time of our choice, consisting of a yogert, juice and home baked biscuit. For bacon and egg lovers, which I am, there is a choice of suitable eateries close by. The staff were all very personable and helpful. Although they have wifi I wasn't travelling with my laptop, but a broadband connection was available to guests 24/7 in the lobby so accessing my email was no problem. Best of all, the whole property (suites, bars, dining rooms) is smoke free, although there are provisions for smokers outside. (And they really mean it, you sign a policy acceptance agreement on check-in which clearly states you will be surcharged an additional $300 if you smoke in your suite)! My wife suffers from allergies, so she loved it.

Being situated right downtown, and Wilmington being a 'safe' city, we were able to stroll around all the sights and restaurants within just a few blocks. Outstanding. Very relaxing.
