“Amazing Place”

Tranquility Inn

Of all the places I have stayed (including 5 star international hotels), I would give the Tranquility Inn the highest rating possible. Leann, the innkeeper, is absolutely charming. We arrived about a half an hour early and she welcomed us with open arms and a huge smile! As soon as we walked in the house, I felt at home. The common rooms downstairs are absolutely beautiful and inviting. The personal touches in each room made me smile and ask more questions, which Leann enthusiastically answered. She then showed us to our room, The Costa Rican Breeze, and as soon as the door opened, I felt as though I had been transported to a tropical locale. The walls had beautiful hand paintings in each corner of palm trees and wild birds. It was not cartoonish, but very tastefully detailed. There are no TV's in any of the rooms and it was great! It was peaceful and quiet. The most impressive part of the room was the rainforest shower. I highly suggest this room for couples or others who truly need to relax. The bed is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in.
Leann was a huge help, giving us not only suggestions for places to eat that were romantic, but she also had sample menus from most of Wilmington's restaurants. We chose her absolute favorite, Caprice Bistro, and we were NOT disappointed. It was romantic, delicious, and reasonably priced. In addition, the Inn is ideally located near downtown on a lovely quiet street. The Inn offers a traditional front porch with an inviting swing and a back porch with a lovely courtyard. The upstairs deck in the back of the house overlooks the beautiful flowers in the garden. The best part of our stay was feeling as though we had the whole house to ourselves. Even though there were other guests in the house, WE NEVER HEARD ANYONE! The next morning breakfast was casually served around 10. What an amazing chef Leann is! She made homemade waffles with an assortment of fruit and chocolate. My boyfriend especially enjoyed her offer for seconds after he inhaled the first plate. We then talked with her for another hour without feeling the typical rush of "checking out" by an exact time. Instead, she shared more about the house and herself. It felt more like friends having a conversation by the time we left. I am going back to Wilmington before September, and I already know there's no other place I would want to stay than the Tranquility Inn.

We stayed one night at the Tranquility Inn in early May and what a wonderful stay it was! We had stayed at this same inn once before, 2 years earlier. Since that time the ownership had changed hands and the new owner, Leann, was absolutely wonderful! She is such a nice person and very knowledgable and helpful of local events and attractions. She really made us feel at home during our brief stay. We were in town to see a local production of "Beauty and the Beast" at the Thalian Hall, literally two blocks down the street. I highly recommend anyone staying here to check the production calendar and see if a show is playing there during your visit -- the prices are very reasonable and the theater is simply beautiful! Back to the B&B -- all 4 rooms are immaculate, with appropriate attention to detail and amenities. We stayed in the Tuscany Suite -- which I highly recommend for couples. The next morning the breakfast was amazing. I've stayed in B&Bs where you just sit and wait quietly at the table, but Leann allowed us and other guests to sit with her in the kitchen while she whipped up the best waffles I have ever had. It was nice to see the time and attention she puts into her breakfasts, all the while I just sat there and drank my 3-4 cups of coffee! Also, as a nice final touch she had baked these magnificent chocolate raspberrry ganache cakes in the shape of hearts that she packaged up and sent with us on our departure -- which was great since it was my birthday! Overall, this is a B&B in Wilmington that you do not want to miss. Leann is simply wonderful and we will definitely be back again!!!

Also, take advantage of the free Chocolate Mousse at La Catalan restaurant for all guests of the Tranquility Inn -- it is definitely worth the brief walk down to the water for it!

Tranquility Inn is a lovely oasis situated perfectly in the town of Wilmington near the waterfront and market street, but only 20 minutes from the beach. The host is gracious, the rooms are fun, imaginative and comfortable and the price is extremely reasonable--all in all, a great value! And if you're interested in Yoga, the owner can give you a private class! You have the option of including a healthful meal in the rate or grabbing dinner at any of the local restaurants you can walk to.
