Getting there: Although the hotel is very close to the airport, it is a little tricky to find as it is not well marked. As you leave the airport, you are going to pass a Petro Canada gas station on the right, and then come to a Tim Hortons on the left. Once you pass the Tim Hortons, keep your eyes on the left side for a small side street and the entrance to a business park. This is your turn. If you cross the highway bridge, turn around and go back, as you’ve gone too far. Once you turn onto this street, follow it until you get to the hotel. You will drive parallel to the highway for a little bit, pass Pratt & Whitney on the left, and will soon see the HGI ahead of you. Hotel management, if you are monitoring this: A sign at the turn off the airport road would be very, very helpful.
Once you arrive, you will find a very clean and efficient hotel. The staff seems very friendly and the check-in process is fairly smooth. My room was very nice, with a refrigerator, nice TV, comfortable bed, good bathroom, free internet and all the usual bells and whistles. There is a business center and a pool if you are so inclined. Breakfast in the morning is a little on the slow side, but it does the trick. I did not eat there for dinner. There are several good restaurants both in Halifax and Dartmouth that make more sense than eating dinner at the hotel. Dartmouth is about a 20 minute drive down an easy highway, and the prices are a little better than the hotel for food. There is also the Tim Hortons I mentioned earlier.
This is a nice enough hotel, although not really close to Halifax. You will have to drive about 30 minutes to get to Halifax, but it is a nice quiet location if you are looking for a restful sleep.
