My husband and I travelled from March 28-April 4th for a vacation without children....(first piece of Heaven!) haha
We consider ourselves travellers of the islands in the carribean and were completely taken off guard for what awaited us....paradise and complete R & R!
Plane ride was ok, Transat has very small seating...husband is 6'4", so a confined ride there. The resort is an 1.5 hour ride, that was over with before you knew it. Then SIAN KA'AN!!!!. We were greeted with a welcome drink, the BEST bell boy (Leopoldo) and pleasantries from all staff. Our room was not ready, but no big deal as it gave us time to cruise the resort and get a bite to eat. (We packed our swim suits in our carry on, so we changed in their beautiful marble washrooms and were pool side in no time at all).
The grounds are stunning with pathways that lead you through lush vegetation, (even though this is a new resort)! Beautiful birds, butterflies were everywhere as where the Iguanas :0
As everyone has posted, the resort is not on the beach, it is a short tram ride (5mins) to the beach. The trams are not a long ride to any resort and would challenge the comment made previously how it took people an hour to get there. NOT true! The exclusiveness of this resort made it so enjoyable - being able to visit other resorts, but come back to a quiet and tranquil setting.
Our room... was located close to the lobby, so were able to access WIFI there. We had the roof top terrace and thank goodness we did....hot tub under the stars was truly breathtaking as were the sunrises each morning.
The rooms are clean, extremely spacious and I thoroughly enjoyed sitting with windows wide open watching the birds of paradise sing their lovely songs. Oh, even the little geckos were in our room, harmless, but very entertaining! (No screens on windows).
People posted how far of a walk it was from one end of the resort to the lobby...really people??? I walked it from end to end in less then 2 mins!
The food.....was delicious, hot, and variety? - SPECTACULAR! We ate breakfast there and were never disappointed. 4-5 varieties of yogurt, egg station is quick and effecient and the best pineapple juice ever. We had supper there once and were thoroughly pleased.
The beach...wow! A short tram ride there and in 30 steps, the ocean is waiting for you. We quickly learned if you want front row, catch the 7:15am tram (they say the trams run at 7am, but staff are at the tram station for 7am, check the tram out and drive to the resort for 7:15-7:20am). We reserved our comfy beach chairs, then head back for breakfast, licker up with sunscreen and head back to the beach. We laid there from 9-4 everyday, with beautiful sun radiating through those tired bones...ahhhh.
OHHH....and butler service on the beach!
The ala cartes!...we tried Alux (too fancy for us and served frog stuff), LeGourmet was good, Dolce Vita... was ok, but the Arlequin was amazing!....so good we booked again for our last night there. Chicken cordon bleu to DIE for.....oh!....heaven again!! My husband raved about their creme brulee and I their warm chocolate fondant!
The entertainment....was good enough for us, but if you want to PARRRTTAAAAYYYY, not the place for you! They had snippets in the evening, to give you a glimpse of what the other resorts offered. There was a lovely couple who sang after dark, and were very good, but that is the extent of it.
and finally the STAFF!....these people are the heartbeat of this fine establishment!...they will treat you well with HOLA's everytime you seen them. They work every minute of the day, cleaning gardens, loading laundry, raking the beach and even scrubbing the walkways where tree debris has fallen!...courteous, polite, hard working men and women...we thoroughly enjoyed their company!
So, you are wondering if there are any complaints? Hmmm...
1. I didn't like people sitting on the tram smoking 2 feet away from me, smoke blowing in my face, so a "no smoking" rule should come into effect. (yes we expressed our displeasure, but they didn't care!)
2. The rooms could have a full length mirror, as I am short and could only see from the upper torso area and up.
3. Tired of listening to people complain about children at the resort. If you don't want kids around, find yourself an "adult only" resort.
4. The water in the shower does take 5 mins to warm up, so I would run the water, have a cocktail and then have my shower!...problem solved!!
5. More chairs around the pools are needed.
PLEASE remember to tip these fine people. They make very little money and DO NOT give them Canadian money as a tip. It costs them a huge fee to convert the Canadian money to Pesos.
There you have it folks!....an amazing resort that we have already planned for next March 2013!
Our room number was 40324, close to the lobby, facing the East. Amazing sunrises!...
