“The only place to stay in Bacalar”

We took a weekend away and chanced upon Bakalar Villas. There are a number of tatty-looking hotels that haven't evolved since the 1960's, and then there's Bakalar Villas. Rather than being on the water, it's on the opposite side of the street with stunning views of Laguna Bacalar. The hotel is very new and many rooms are still under construction. In fact, the room below ours had construction workers. They were quiet, but the chemicals that they were using on the woodwork or whatever wafted upstairs into our bedroom....I couldn't figure out until the next day why I had such a ripping headache. Negatives are that the room that we were in still was incomplete; the tiles in the bathroom didn't look like they were finished and cleaned property, the shower head was among the worst I've ever had to face, and the TV didn't have cable--you had to borrow DVD's from the front desk. The furnishings are very tasteful, but the artlwork on the walls could have been done by my 6 year old...if I had one. I'm sure they'll get their act together, but nonetheless this is the ONLY place I'd stay in in Bacalar.

I love this place! If I could move in and live here I would! Immaculate and accomadating! Fernando went out of his way to make our stay pleasant. The entire staff was kind, attentive and fun.
My mom and I stayed in a juinior suite and it was more than enough space! Internet access was wonderful to have and the air conditioning was a must! We have been to several tropical/resort destinations and Bacalar is by far our new favorite! We will surely be back and we will surely stay at Villa Bakalar!

We stayed at Villas Bakalar for 2 nights in March, what a find !!!! This is a newer complex just completed 1 yr ago and everything is new and squeaky clean. There are 15 suites up on a hill all overlooking Beautiful Lake Bacalar with a beautiful pool area in front. The service was excellent thanks to Fernando and his staff. Fernando is very accomodating and provides any assistance that you need from booking spa services to boat tours of Bacalar. Excellent choice if you are staying in Bacalar area. We had business to attend to in Chetumal ( 30 minutes away) but chose to stay here, also the Belize border is 30 minutes away that offers Duty Free Shopping and Casinos. We found this villa on bacalarmosaico.com but the also have their own website villasbakalar.com Enjoy your stay, we certainly did!!!!
