Practically everything very good about the place.
Pity that the main restaurant was not open though - had to use the other restaurant.
Pool pleasant and warm.

I stayed at this hotel over a weekend in late May 2008. The total cost was £198 for a double room inc. breakfast.
Arrival was a quick affair and we were soon in our standard double room. What was really nice was the huge flat TV in the corner along with an elegantly decorated room. Minibar prices were also quite realistic for any hotel.
We ate out both nights but came back mid-evening for a few drinks. On the Saturday night the Police had to be called because of some noisy tanked-up scousers but the hotel dealt with this well and they were soon evicted. All was back to civility soon enough.
Breakfast was a very fine affair - you order what you want and it is cooked fresh. I had salmon one morning and pancakes the next - both were amongst the best I have ever had.
All in all, this is probably the best hotel I've stayed in at the Lake District. I'm happy to recommend.

Our stay at the Swan Hotel in May this year was absolutely fabulous. The only thing missing was the weather!
The staff were all outstanding. So helpful and friendly nothing was a bother. They were also very helpful with our little one.

Was very impressed with this hotel. Only booked a day or two before arrival date and requested a king size bed (other comments had been that beds were a little too small) and room with a river view, I was hoping that I might get at least one of the two requests so I was delighted when I got both. The staff here are excellent - nothing is too much trouble and as someone who is a professional meeting planner - staying in hotels all around the world (including many 5 stars for 15 years) I was very happy with the Swan. The food was great, with a choice of three restaurants to choose from. Fabulous location also. The best thing for me were the staff though - they totally made my stay and should make the owner / manager very proud - make sure you keep them. If there is one down side it is the stained velvet chairs in the restaurant /breakfast room - other than that I cannot find fault. I would recommend this to others - if I didn't want to keep it secret to myself:)

Make sure if you book online for Newby Bridge that you choose the SWAN Hotel which this review is about.
This is one of the best hotels that I have been in for a long time. All the staff we met were excellent. Very smart and well chosen by the management.
The reception area is well set out and from the first moment give a good impression of the hotel.
The room was well furnished . Had a really nice bed . A super view from the window. A modern large flat screen TV with even Sky sports 1. The cleaning of the rooms was excellent and those extra little touches like the covers being turned down and a small chocolate placed on the pillow.
Quite a large fitness room for a hotel, nice pool, changing rooms, sauna etc All really well looked after.
Food in th restaurants was a total pleasure. The breakfast was cooked to order.
My only regret was that I had only booked in for three nights.
Not cheap but a quality hotel.
