My girlfriend and I spent two nights here and both thought that this was wonderful value for money. Both the evening meal and breakfast were excellent and all the staff were very friendly as well as courteous.
Our room was very nice and we were even upgraded for our 2 nights. If you are looking for somewhere nice to stay whilst visiting the area I can thingk of no better place.
One thing, if you want to use the leasure facilities take your own towel or you are charged £2 for each one.

My husband and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at this lovely hotel and were not disappointed. The staff were very attentive but not obtrusive, the room was lovely with bath robes, fluffy towels and Cowshed products that I could use during my stay. The food was absolutely delicious, I am a vegetarian and quite often this option is uninspiring but I ate two absolutely mouth watering options - yum yum.!! We met some nice people during our stay too. But best of all was the leisurely breakfast served at a sensible time - nothing worse than having to get up and eat early when on holiday don't you think? We would definitely visit again.

12 May 2009 | Trip type: Family

We booked 2 nights exclusive use of Broadoaks for our wedding (9th May 2009) and were joined by our family and friends for the weekend.

What can we say!!

On Friday evening we were served with a sumptuous BBQ/buffet which was enjoyed by all, and our families spent a relaxing evening getting to know each other in the comfort of the Music Room and the Bar.

There was a fairly major blip with our linen supplier on Friday evening, but Joe (the hotel's Wedding Co-ordinator) sorted it with his usual calm professionalism by sending the ever-smiling David to Kendal to pick up some fresh tablecloths for us. We knew nothing about the problem until it was all sorted. Thank you Joe!

Joe, Chris (Hotel Manager) and the team worked like trojans on Saturday morning to set up the Restaurant for our Wedding Breakfast, and it looked fabulous when it was finished.

We had been hoping to have our wedding ceremony outdoors, but the weather on Saturday morning was pretty poor, which meant that the ceremony had to take place indoors, in the Music Room. But it's such a lovely room it was impossible not to be disappointed by having to be indoors.

Thankfully, the weather improved sufficiently for us to have our photos taken outdoors in the gardens, beautifully maintained and manicured by David the hotel gardener.

The food served for our wedding breakfast was perfect, thanks to Taz and Ryon, and impeccably served by Chris, Joe, Vicky, Almaria, Steve an d David.

After the wedding breakfast tea and coffee were served in the Music Room whilst Joe and his team turned the restaurant around ready for our evening disco.

Summing up, if anyone is thinking of having their wedding at Broadoaks, then don't hesitate - you won't be disappointed. The venue is wonderful, the location is beautiful, the staff are amazing, and the attention to detail is second to none.

We received the same level of service when we previously stayed there for a weekend in March, and we will certainly be returning for another stay just as soon as we can.

Thank you to the whole team at Brodoaks for making our wedding such a memorable experience!

Afternoon Tea a Rip-off

Went for afternoon tea for 4 people - were served only two sandwiches each and rock hard barely edible scones. We were really looking forward to this special occasion and were thoroughly disappointed with the experience. The place was nice enough but the quality and quantity of the food served really let it down. I would not recommend afternoon tea at a price of nearly thirteen pounds per person.

Management response from BroadoaksTroutbeck, Deputy General Manager
(Management representative)

We regularly check trip advisor to get an accurate view of how we are performing for our guests and to ensure that any niggles that have affected a stay are rectified, after all we need to know about the problems so that we can fix them.

If you look through our reviews I hope you will see that we rarely get it wrong and it is from this standpoint that I must say I do not accept the 'afternoon tea rip off' review as accurate.

Our afternoon tea is priced at £12.95 - for this price you can expect one sandwhich, a scone and jam, chocolate torte, tea loaf and victoria sponge each and as much tea and fresh coffee as you fancy.

If you were to price this indidvidually from our snack menu this would cost £27.40.

We have sold over 40 afternoon teas over the last 2 weeks with our other customers enjoying the right amount off food prepared to excating standards, using locally sourced products, all freshly created to order in house by our chefs.

Our front of house staff regularly check on our guests and there would have been several points throughout this guests visit to mention they were not satisfied and the problems would have been rectified immediately.

If you come to stay with us and something is not to your satisfaction please don't hesitate to tell us, we are a customer focused independantly owned country house and our team strives to deliver an experience beyond expectation.

Up untill the end of May we are offering a fantastic deal through the daily mail with afternoon teas for £10 per person, if you quote trip advisor we will be happy to extend the offer to you and we will welcome any feedback on what we know to be a decadent, great value afternoon tea set in some of South Lakelands most fantastic scenery.

i booked the elm suite which although not the cheapest of rooms was very well equipt with double jacuzzi and king size bed which made the stay very comfortable. The only two negative points to the room is that the "free wireless internet" didnt reach the room and the kitchen was situated next door which resulted in a little late evening and eraly morning noise. Other than that the room is perfect and very well decorated. The cow shed products were a lovely extra touch ( altho watch how much bubble bath you put in the jacuzzi as the bubbles soon get out of control when the its turned on!! ) The staff were all very friendly and professional and the food was excellent. The house is not in the immediate vicinity of pubs, restaurants or shops but has everything you need for a relaxing, romantic and high quality get away.
