Good points - nice room (twin - room 3) but £99 B&B was a bit steep for what we got. Old-fashioned pub exterior and fantasic rural setting - some superb walks from the door.
Evening meal only just ok - tasted bought in - like yet another '3663' food giant special - 'boil in the bag' kept coming to mind and definitely not home cooked although whole menu rather optimistically priced, felt they were charging over the odds for very average fayre. Veg ok, Chips poor, meat tender enough but sauce rubbish.. Wine list ok., reasonable choice. Staff friendly. Breakfast ok but nothing special.
Downside: Pub lacked atmosphere internally - one enclosed imitation wood burner only (very pathetic) and other fireplaces blocked off with false plants in hearth instead. Pub advertised over '50' whiskies but not in evidence and not available when asked for. Gave up after 6th choice not available. Quoted £92 B&B for 2 then were charged £99 but couldnt be bothered to argue.
Would not stay again particularly at the price. Dont mind paying this sort of cash if its worthwhile but this generally isnt. Its a place that tries to talk itself up but basically doesnt make enough effort for it to work.
