The location allowed a long trip from the south of England to Scotland to be broken with a good nights sleep .
The hotel staff were very friendly and knowledgeable of the local area.
The room we were given was large and although we were at the front of the hotel , the busy road that ran directly in front of the hotel did not generate a disturbing noise.
The room itself was a well converted 'barn type character room ' with exposed stone wall and beams.
The bathroom was a little small, but adequate for an overnight stay.
We ate in the bar area , ordering from an extensive and interesting menu. There was a special board that offered seasonal variations
I must say we were a little disappointed ,with our chosen meals, but we may have just been unlucky. One had the general feeling that the staff really trying to please.
The bar was of a good size , had an open fire and had a friendly atmosphere .
Local real ale was available, and was well kept and well presented
There was a 'Games area ' with a pool table and dart board.
The breakfast room was a little 'tired' , but breakfast was of a good 'homely' quality and quantity, served by another friendly and chatty member of staff .
In summary ,nice people , an interesting one night stop over that I would stay at again.
