“Bad experience in the diningroom”

Whittlebury Hall

Myself and hubby booked a last minute 1 night away and choose this Hotel. The bedroom was lovely, comfortable and clean. We arrived Good Fri about 7.30pm, the receptionist booked a table in the resturaunt for us(we were not offered a choice), we were not aware or made aware there were 2 resturaunts. .We ordered a bottle of Rioja wine 15 mins later the waitress arrived to say they had ran out of this wine???? I choose the salmon my husband choose the fillet steak (£9.95 supp) to speak about the starters tiny & tastless is an understatement ! My tiny piece of salmon was covered in a tomato sauce(I don't mean Heinz) !! It was tastless the veg was virtually non existant. My husbands steak was well done, nearly chargrilled he ordered the steak to be cooked medium. At no time did a member of staff ask us if everything was ok with our meal.
The breakfast was a bit of a joke, we arrived in the dining room at 9.30 bearing in mind breakfast finishes at 10.30. I choose to have some fresh fruit, there was nothing left. The plates were refilled just before 10.30.(perhaps they were saving it for lunch)!! There were no bread rolls, the basket was left empty throughout the duration of breakfast, we left at 10.30. There were no tomatoes, hash browns, blackpudding, I asked what seemed to be the head waiter if it was possible to have some blackpudding, he said it would be ready in 3 mins and yes it was arrived in 3 mins but uncooked in the middle! It wasnt fried, it was put into an oven and baked by the look of it. (maybe microwaved)?Just as we left at 10.30 all the containers were refilled with all the food tomatoes etc. The timing was perfect as everyone was leaving the diningroom at that point.
This seems to be a training hotel, there was no organisation in the dining room at all, guest were asking if they could have this or that.
Oh the fire alarm went off at 7.30am on Sat morning no apology, I thought this must be to make sure that all guests was up on time for breakfast!!!! The corridor was extremely noisy during the night and early morning.
I dont think I would be spending a stay at this Hotel again in the near future although our plan was to return for a 2 night stay and combine a spa break with some golf as across the road there is a fab golf course.

We stayed here following a day at the horse racing in Towcester nearby.

The hotel was built in 1999 and annexed later. It is beautifully appointed in a large park and next to a golf course. It is very good value for money if you push for a discount. We found it quite palatial, clean, comfortable and efficient. Our room was large enough with an exceptionally good en-suite complete with all the usual extras plus towelling robes although these were rather heavy and a bit rough. The lounge, bar and restaurants were large and friendly. Expect to pay around £4 for each drink. The swimming pool room decor is extremely well done and attractive. The large L-shaped pool is only 1.5M deep all over and a little colder than comfortable. The jacuzzi in one corner was very hot.

Our only criticism was that the staff at breakfast need training.

I stayed on Sunday 18th March 2007. The spa was fine, however the room we were allocated was Room 308. Don't let anyone allocate you this room, outside the window are 4 large extractor fans which kept me up all night, as they were going off approx every 60-90 mins, my nights sleep was absolutely awful, combined with the corridor door outside the room that made a loud bang everytime someone went through it (I really think these should have some kind of quietly closing mechanism to stop this), all in all the relaxing spa experience was lost having had minimal sleep. And to top it off we had ordered breakfast to the room and it wasn't correct. Unfortunately for me, the lack of sleep makes this a terrible experience.

Just ensure if you stay you are not in that room.

“Great hotel to stay on business”

Hence the title stayed here on business in january. The hotel is generally very good, rooms were large, food was fantastic and spa was a lovely way to relax after a hard days work. Would suggest the hotel for a break really unless its a stop over for an event, as lovely as the hotel is i think its lacking the cosy factor. only quibble was with one of the reception staff who seemed very snobby, when we asked to book for dinner after arriving at half 7. The bar there is very good however inkeeping with the hotel expensive. Tried at the gym facilies which seems adecuate. Cant comment on the treatments as i didnt try them but the whole set up of the spa looks beutifull. The bathrooms were very good however perhaps needing a little attention, bathrobes where provided which was a lovely extra despite being far to massive on me. overall a good experience and i certainly look forward to staying again if im so lucky.

Fantstic hotel and spa, Very relaxed atmosphere. Lovely, evening meal with great service. Breakfast was also great with a wide choice of food. Definately worth upgrading to the heat and ice experience, it was soooo relaxing. Wine is around £5 a glass, probably what you expect for a 4 star hotel. Staff all very helpfull and polite. you must vacate your room by 11am, however if using the spa you don,t have to check out until later, therefore you can still put any drinks etc on room tab until you leave. They will also look after your luggage for you until then if you wish. there are phones next to the poolside loungers, you can dial through and they will bring you wine, champayne etc !! Can't wait to go again!!!
