A nice little 3-star hotel. Friendly staff. We booked pretty late (2 days before a bank holiday) - for around £60 for a twin room very reasonable.
Of course, the ubiquitous wedding took place on Saturday night, but as the reception staff pointed out, their license is only until midnight and miraculously, at that time, all noise did cease!
The food was definitely worthwhile - the carvery and desserts in particular.
Worth staying at.

Pleasant room, reasonable size, clean and quiet, average price. Surprise to see blankets on the bed rather than a duvet. However typical of the hotel, which seemed a bit dated, but service good.
The food in the carvery was a bit variable. Some of our party had lamb shank that was a bit tough, but my rabbit was lovely. The lumpy custard with pudding was removed and replaced quickly when pointed out.
Wine list was reasonably priced and quite varied.

The Old Tollgate is a nice hotel in a small village. The actual hotel is nice, however be careful on the room allocation and if you are facing the back, overlooking a yard with bins AVOID AT ALL COSTS. We were unfortunate to have such a room but did not realise the problems until the middle of the night!
1. there is a generator which runs constantly outside the window and cuts in and out all night.
2. 5am - lorry delivers to back of hotel outside window.
3. 6am - bin lorries collect empty bottles and make a real racket
4. 8am - other guests sit at benches outside window and talk at top of voices!
The actual restaurant looks nice but it was only a choice of cavery which was overtaken by wedding guests. Approx £20 per head. there is a decent Chinese and Indian restaurant nearby.
We had our wedding reception here having eaten many times in the excellent restaurant and been impressed by the quality of the food, service and surroundings. We had the bridal suite which comes with a four poster bed and jacuzzi in the room. it was very comfortable, clean and had everything we could have wanted. The hotel staff are excellent- very efficient, friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet in the morning was lovely. The hotel is also well located for exploring rural Sussex.
The restaurant is very popular and well-known by local people and is first rate. For £23.95 you can have 3 courses and have as much as you want. As the other post for this hotel mentioned, it really isn't your typical carvery and is something best reserved for a special occasion.
