It's been an amazing first 3-night solo getaway to Daylesford (or my first solo getaway, period.). Daylesford is incredibly safe, even for a 22 year old Malaysian girl travelling alone. Everyone -- from random people on the streets, to waiters/waitresses at local cafes, to the masseus at the day spa were so unbelievably friendly!
I'd booked my accommodation at 65 Main without actually reading any of the reviews and hence didn't really expect much of it. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised! Upon arrival, Christine was friendly and welcoming...I was promptly shown through the door and to the cosy red living room where I filled in a questionnaire for Christine to tailor her recommendations based on my interests.
The Riesling room I was booked in was nice and warm. I particularly loved the stained-glass windows which looked incredible in the sunlight. The deck was the perfect place to enjoy the sun whilst reading my book. It needs a good old sweep, though, and the chairs were a little dirty. but nothing like wearing slippers and putting a towel over the chair can't fix. Also, the bathroom was just a tad tiny, but you know what? I wasn't terribly put off by it -- it's not like I'd spent so much time in there anyways. The big flat screen TV on the top right corner of the room was certainly put to good use thanks to Christine's eclectic mix of DVDs.
I'd spoiled myself silly these past 4 days with massages, spas, facials, manicures and pedicures (teehee). The masseuse Christine booked me in with was AMAZING -- she definitely seems like the top town secret (seriously, ask Christine to book you in with her if you're looking to come here). Having dinner alone at a restaurant for the first time felt really strange at first, but soon I started enjoying my own company and I absolutely just loved taking my sweet time to have a meal. I didn't spend any nights out at the pub or anything, though. That just wasn't my scene. Instead I'd come back to my room after dinner, snuggled up in bed with a good rom-com or with my book. It's just one of those things you don't get to do when you're living in Melbourne, busy and worrying about stuff. At Daylesford, all your stress and worries are instantaneously zapped away! I feel refreshed and energized, and I'm definitely looking forward to my next solo getaway -- maybe even to Daylesford and 65 Main all over again!
Kudos to Christine for her lovely home away from home.
