We read the reviews of Lola's on Trip Advisor. I have to say, they weren't exaggerated. We were greeted at the door by Lola herself, who took the time to get our names and ask how we heard about her. After telling her that Lola's was rated so highly on Trip Advisor, she was really surprised and very happy to hear about it.
We were seated immediately, which was no small feat, it being completely packed on a Saturday night. The restaurant was divided into three smaller, more intimate rooms, each decorated slightly different, but using the same color palate in different ways. Each room had it's own chandelier, which lent a rich, old world light to the atmosphere.
Our waitress was happy and exuberant, and gave us lots of recommendations and suggestions regarding the menu. We shared a bottle of red san giovese which was amazing. My husband ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. He says you can always judge an Italian restaurant by their spaghetti and meatballs. Well, he wasn't disappointed. The sauce was bold and rich, and the meatballs were moist and full of flavor. I ordered one of the spring specials, which was cilantro lime linguine pasta, with sauteed shrimp. The cilantro and lime really intrigued me, so I ordered it. It was light, fruity, and packed a punch of great flavor! The shrimp were large and cooked perfectly. There was just the right amount of seasoning of garlic and parm.
We pre-ordered dessert at our waitress' (and Tripadvisor's) advisement, so we'd get a piece of Lola's homemade chocolate chip cookie pie. It was lavish, chocolaty, decadent, gooey goodness! Good thing too, because we got the last piece. They would have run out if we hadn't ordered it with dinner, instead of after dinner!
Our bread basket was always full, and so was our wine glasses, courtesy of our waitress. Lola came around to talk with us after dessert. We felt like part of the family.
It's not always that you walk out of a restaurant with your belly full of amazing food and your heart full at the same time. On that night, we had both. Bravo to Lola and company.
