Have known of the Stratton House Hotel since it's inception. It is one of our local hotels and as such, and is often the case with ameneties on your doorstep, not often frequented by us. However we did today, as we were looking for a change of venue for a pub lunch. We found the hotel clean, tidy, and comfortably warm and cosy on a drab, damp winters day. The front entrance opens out to a large bar/ public area with comfortable furnishings. I particularly like the fact that the whole floor area is carpetted, adding to the comfort factor. (This modern trend of bare floors leaves me cold, and in my view is totatally uninviting)..
The young barstaff were smartly uniformed, polite and friendly. The service was very good. By the time I had ordered our drinks and food, the condiment tray and our cutlery had been placed on the table. The waiting time for our meal was minimal whilst the portions were well prepared and substantial. On completion of our meal the table was cleared without any undue delay.
The bar prices are equally compettitive with any of the pubs in town.
You know what? I've just talked myself into visiting the place more often.
