“Avoid this place like the plague”

Gissing Hall Hotel

If you do one thing for me this year - then avoid this hotel like the plague. It is yet another example of the typical UK Fawlty Towers. The rooms are old and in desperate need of decoration, the service is terrible, the food is like cardboard, the grounds like a building site and when we went to reception to give constructive feedback, it was obvious they had heard our complaints 100 times before. Such a shame as the location and building itself are beautiful. In the right hands this hotel could really draw in the crowds. Priced accordingly this hotel should probably charge around £50 a night instead of the £110 we paid. I can guarantee if you have any standards at all you will only stay here a maximum of once.

We stayed a night at Gissing Hall in March this year.

We found the room to be well decorated, clean and with lovely view over front garden. bed was comfy and bathroom modern and clean.

food was excellent- all homemade and staff very friendly - whole hotel has a very personal feel to it- the opposite to generic chain hotels.

beautiful buildings and nice gardens.
competitively priced, would definitely stay again. ideal for a break away.

“Great antedote against drab, characterless corporate hotels”

Gissing Hall Hotel

This was my second visit to Gissing Hall, my previous visit having been in Summer. The hotel is not the easiest place to find, my satnav took me backwards and forwards to Diss by several different routes - still, this forms part of the charm for me!
If you want to spend £90 for a nondescript shoebox in one of a thousand corporate hotels with views over the local dual carriageway and the sound of the motorway to lull you to sleep, this is probably not the hotel for you!
If you want individuality, unique spacious rooms and views across acres of open countryside then Gissing Hall ticks all those boxes.
There is clearly ongoing work taking place, this is a large building and a large project, however, there have been noticeable changes since my last visit.
Evening meals were excellent and great value. I'll be back!

“Old & Cold”

Gissing Hall Hotel

Dont go in the winter, its freezing in some rooms. The bar & restaurant are ok and nearly warm. Take wellington boots, long johns and ski wear. I had room 9 at the top of the house which was great, if you like a temperature below zero, ceiling hanging down, furniture that your granny has thrown out, and you are a ghost hunter. The coldest, spookiest, worst night I have spent anywhere in hotels around the world. ( and I have stayed in many) Perports to be 'arty'. Food is expensive and average.

“Exceptional Room for Money!”

Gissing Hall Hotel

I stayed in room one, exceptionally large period room with four poster bed, very clean with large bathroom. Staff are very pleasant.
Only downsides are that the hotel wasn't signposted, the full english breakfast was alittle drab,(horrible sausages), however at £50 inclusive for the night, you can't complain, anybody would be delighted, in fact I stay away nationally 2/3 times a week and have never stayed anywhere quite like it for the price.
Wouldn't hesitate to stay again, superb value!
