Stayed in the wedding suite for 1 night in February 2007. The room we stayed in was not the one pictured on the website and was the only suite so goodness knows where they got the picture from. The jacuzzi emitted black slime even after the 3rd time of getting it going. The remote control on the tv didn't work and was not able to be replaced. The hot tap came off in my hand! The lounge was being used for a wedding party so all there was to do was eat and go back to the room. All in all a very horrible experience, how someone would feel if they booked their wedding night there I can't imagine. They did refund us £50 for the inconvenience but that hardly made up for it!

“Satisfied customers”

Gissing Hall Hotel

We had a 3 night stay and were more than satisfied with our room which overlooked the garden and had an extremely comfortable bed, and a new shower suite. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was excellent. We intend to return for another break in the spring.

we loved Gissing Hall - it is a unique hotel with a comfortable feel and good food and staff friendly.

The food is homemade - and reasonably priced. the staff were very helpful and the hotel is a lovely place to stay as its in the countryside - no noise!

Our bedrooms were all differently decorated which was so much nicer than a generic hotel where all the rooms are the same - we found the beds comfy and bathrooms modern.
they have been refurbishing and there is still some going on - but it is not in any intrusive.
i'd recommend this hotel if you want a place which has a personal feel to it and character.

Fawlty Towers doesnt even come near. A lounge that was straight out of an old folks home, dirty sills with dead bluebottles in bedroom and bathroom, uncooked bread served at dinner. This last item led me to make my first ever complaint in a restaurant, but I was just llooked at blankly by the young waitress. Incorrect wine was poured without our being given a chance to look at the label, and the food was dreadful. Next morning, no hot water, to which I was told 'this is what happens when there are too many people in the hotel' !!! Really truly awful, and I agree with the last reviewer, they are charging double the amount they should. No apology has yet been received for the appalling stay we had there.

“Avoid this place like the plague”

Gissing Hall Hotel

If you do one thing for me this year - then avoid this hotel like the plague. It is yet another example of the typical UK Fawlty Towers. The rooms are old and in desperate need of decoration, the service is terrible, the food is like cardboard, the grounds like a building site and when we went to reception to give constructive feedback, it was obvious they had heard our complaints 100 times before. Such a shame as the location and building itself are beautiful. In the right hands this hotel could really draw in the crowds. Priced accordingly this hotel should probably charge around £50 a night instead of the £110 we paid. I can guarantee if you have any standards at all you will only stay here a maximum of once.
